Track clearance calculator
Hi all thought I'd share this tool for helping to work out gradients and clearances. http://www.carbidedepot.com/formulas-trigright.asp It's an online Trigonometry Calculator. I simply type in to side c the length of track I have and into angle A the required gradient and press calculate. And then s...

Re: Figure eight layout
Are you talking about a folded figure of 8? (you basically folding the top of the 8 back on itself)
If so then below is a single line 8x4 Hornby plan? In a Peco code 75 14x6 should be plenty of time. Note: there is no crossovers used here.

Re: What is your planning process?
Personally I start with a concept, look at a space and start to build. Attached is a 9x6 idea done in Hornby I had a while ago. It's a bit intense and built on at least two levels. With an additional foot of length you could add a fiddle yard somewhere or just extend the platforms. But I show this a...

New Layout idea not yet in planning stage
Hello all, long time no posting. 15ftx9ft Out and back North Wales So this is currently at the proposal stage as the final amount of space is not clear. But this is what I am thinking. As you can see from the names it's based on north Wales line, the red & Yellow are the mainlines running into H...

Re: Feedback on my layout please?
What space do you have? It seem a real waste of an opportunity. So a couple of points 1. Your stations are very short 3-4 coaches maximum and your fiddle yard is very small. you are limiting yourself to very small trains 2. As someone else said you flexi-track for the long runs so much cheaper than ...

Best Track for Semi-permanent OO DCC layout
Hello all, I was just wondering if anyone has any suggestions for the best track to use on a semi-permanent layout. The track would be on laminate flooring, but would be frequently dismantled. HO/OO version of Kato Unitrack would be ideal, but the Kato HO range seems rather limited. It has to be OO ...

Re: New house new plan
Thanks for the feedback :) I do prefer option A so I think I'll play with that. And yes the track is about £400-450 for the fiddle yard and £1000 for the visible sections. Plus the cost of wood, point motors and wiring and not forgetting my time! But this is a layout that I'm hoping will last for 10...

New house new plan
Hello all, So I moved into my current house 5 years ago next month. But I have only now booked in the builder for the garage conversion. So my winter project 2019-2020 will be to build this. 15x8 looped 8 with a top station in blue (the two lines nearest the bottom are an industrial setting) the ove...

Re: Hastings Diesel - Recreate using a MLV
Thanks guys! Good to know. Maybe have to rethink it. But I did find a picture of a Victoria to Dover Priory service with 12 car CEP + MLV leads a TLV leading might do that instead. http://www.bloodandcustard.com/MLV001_files/image002.jpg :D I'm not much of a kit basher really. I'm a track designer a...

Hastings Diesel - Recreate using a MLV
Hi all, I'd really like to recreate the Hastings Diesel set for use on the layout since it will make a nice addition. I'm not much of a scratch builder and not ready to run class 202 is available, so was thinking of using the Bachmann green MLV but not sure what coaches would match? Any suggestions?...
