Re: Otterston - 'L' Shape OO Layout (Construction)

Thanks shunter68, slowly getting there though very pleased with what I've done so far especially as it works! :D Now to get my head around how to wire up the 16 points, hooray!! Though progress may slow down a little as the weather is slowly improving so need to start work on the garden decking to k...

Update - 8 http://i278.photobucket.com/albums/kk102/steve_212_photo/Model%20Railway/20170516_205555_zpskvjnwyqe.jpg Another little update today. I've now finished the wiring for the DCC aspect of my layout and tested with now problems with my engines except for occasional stuttering over the dead sp...

Re: Peco Electrofrog Y points - I don't understand them

I'm in the same predicament but with code 100 so this has been helpful.

I wonder why these haven't been updated to full in line with 'Electrofrog' points?

Re: Otterston - 'L' Shape OO Layout (Construction)

That's the one. Last time I did it, it was with older code 100 points which weren't pre-wired like this. I cut through the two closure rails and fixed a piece of plasticard in the gap, then soldered the extra wires to the underside. It's just better and more reliable than standard, whether you use ...

Re: Otterston - 'L' Shape OO Layout (Construction)

Hi Pete, thanks for the comment, much appreciated. I work in the construction industry where I like to keep my designs and construction methods as simple as possible, it seems that principle has made its way into my layout wiring too. Its been many years since I've picked up a soldering iron (GCSE E...

Re: St Ann's Bridge

Your very welcome and great photo looking over the roof-scape. This maybe of interest to you regarding how they make the kits (found it sometime ago when I started researching the kits) - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9pKbDyP4NZc . I've just finished my first kit which was the signal box and hopef...

Re: Otterston - 'L' Shape OO Layout (Construction)

Hi Bufferstop. Glad you liked the photo especially considering it was taken on my new mobile phone (LG G5 - surprisingly has a decent camera) and hadn't have the time to play around with settings beforehand. I will say the best photo I did take on the day was of the Maunsell S15 Class No.847 with as...

Re: St Ann's Bridge

Hi Dave,

This is moving along really nicely and just like you I have found the wonders of the Metcalfe kits (great results and very reasonably priced too).

Keep up the good work.

Re: Otterston - 'L' Shape OO Layout (Construction)

Thanks Timbersurf, your comment is much appreciated. You've probably noticed that I took your advice and lost a couple of the points on Board 2 (industrial area) as they become pretty pointless (no pun intended  ) and were lost in this loading area. Means 2 points less to wire up too and a lit...

Update - 6 Hope you all had a nice bank holiday weekend. My progress on my layout has slowed a little as I've been recently getting into a really good PS4 game (Horizon: Zero Dawn) however I have found sometime to mess around with my layout. http://i278.photobucket.com/albums/kk102/steve_212_photo/M...

Re: lms fowler 4f

I received my Hornby R3314 Class 4F this week and like you noticed the play in the wheels too but didn't concern me as I guess this has been done for the tight radiuses that the engine may encounter as mentioned by GWR_fan. I did also note how light the engine is compared to my other engines (mainly...

Re: Otterston - 'L' Shape OO Layout (Construction)

Update - 5 Hope you all had a good Easter weekend. I was fortunate to have a little bit of time between seeing family and friends over the little holiday to work on my layout. http://i278.photobucket.com/albums/kk102/steve_212_photo/Model%20Railway/20170416_115057_zpstaqrrlrw.jpg Board 1 (station) h...

Re: Otterston - 'L' Shape OO Layout (Construction)

Update - 4 Over the weekend I was able to spray paint the edges of the timber frame and plywood board to seal in any exposed edges though likely down the line I will cover them in felt or something similar. I looked at many topics on what should be used as the track underlay and there are many creat...

Re: Otterston - 'L' Shape OO Layout (Construction)

I should of elaborated a little more on my flex test as I also did carry out a 'twist' test on it too and that again showed little flex. Though taking what you mentioned previously and just now I might go down the route once wired up underneath installing 5.5mm plywood board with a few large opening...
