Re: Farm tracks

I will never travel anywhere now without a jar for sand! BTW, Tenerife is also a source of fine Saharan sand (imported).

Re: Farm tracks

Thanks both. As you suggest it is probably unlikely to find a printed option but I thought I would ask anyway. I was thinking of using fine ballast, shaped as necessary to form ruts and a little sporadic grass on the centre line with maybe a little scatter. I want to simulate both lane and farm acce...

Re: Stranger returneth with loft layout plans

I went down the route you are considering. I decided to do a looped layout but first had to build the deck to run it on in the roof space. I chose to fit battens across the diagonal members of the roof trusses at a suitable height and then cover the area in ply boarding finished with a cork covering...

Re: Kit Glue

Thanks for your suggestions. I went with Rexell Contacta Professional. It did the job well and was an easy glue to work with.

Re: Kit Glue

Thanks G et al. I have been and gone bought some Revell Contacta as that seems to get the most votes. Fortunately there are no windows in what I am building (yard crane) so that will give me a chance to test the glue out before attempting something more adventurous.

Re: Kit Glue

Thanks all. The wood is looking a bit clearer. Just one final thought.... do these poly cements dry clear like PVA does?

Re: Kit Glue

Thanks guys. Is there any brand that appears to be better than the others and is there any that is not so good or to be avoided IYO?

Kit Glue

It may seem a odd question but what glue is best for building Gaugemaster/ Faller plastic kits? I have found numerous suggestions from an online search and even Gaugemaster only recommend a generic suggestion of "plastic cement glue". There are a myriad of options but i would appreciate an...

Re: Slate Wagons

Thanks for that guys. Do you know if the same style of wagon was used in Scotland at Ballachulish and Easdale? Also do you know of anyone that makes these in OO guage?

Slate Wagons

I am looking for advice on what OO gauge wagons are appropriate to haul slate on the main network. I know that slate wagons used in quarries were generally narrow gauge but what was used to transport the slate on the network? Any help appreciated.

Re: Changing old Triang wheels

I have replaced a number of Triang coach and wagon plastic wheels sets over time. After punching out the axles I fitted Romford flanged and unflanged metal bearings to hold the new pinpoint wheel sets. A plug of Blutak keeps them in place which has been painted out to conceal them. Works great now.

Re: Road markings

I have used a different technique. Since I don't throw anything away (you never know when it could be useful!) Metcalfe platforms come with pre-gummed platform edgings that are edged in white. Careful cutting from the unused lengths provides great road white lines which you can then cut up into requ...

Re: Led Lighting problem

Thank you all for your help and input. I think I have identified the problem being a dicky connection to the resistor (Pre-fixed). FYI the lamp supplier is well known and attends numerous shows throughout the UK and supplies also from their website. I would consider them to be reputable. I may have ...

Re: Led Lighting problem

Brian, thanks for the comments on failing LEDs. My lamps are being powered by a Guagemaster WM4 DC 1.25A wall mounted supply as I noted in my original post.I think there should be enough amps to cover the 900mA I am using with a bit to spare. There is a resistor pre-fixed to the positive lead to red...
