Thanks, a very merry go round. :D

That LM317 cct is very simple, thanks for the heads-up, I googled LM317 and found lots of similar usage so I think I will order some and have a play, they dont cost much.
But I will try it out on a spare motor first :) !

That looks very entertaining :)

Which controller(s) did you decide upon, did you try the LM317 circuit, does it work ok ?

Re: Smoke ! (again)

Y'alls may be pleased to know that my experimental 10off atomizers arrived and 1_of_10 met it's Waterloo :) No hacksaws needed, it was all a (tight) push fit. I am being premature in posting this without a dramatic finalé of a smoking gun, but thought there may be some interested parties who may wan...

Re: Smoke ! (again)

Solder a brass tube in one of the side air inlets (block the other) and wires to centre battery tab and the outer ring. The bottom of the ring is sealed with a plastic plate glued in. The secret is separate control of pump and element voltages and not switching the smoke on permanently! Thanks for ...

Re: Smoke ! (again)

else you will melt the assembly (hence there is no video of version 1!) Hi TimberSurf, yes ok the fine vids, I especially liked #4 looks like a fine autumn day, calm sunny high pressure settled Wx when the smoke can rise straight up to good height. It probably does that on fine summer days but we d...

Re: Smoke ! (again)

PPS yet more research, and it turns out I didnt need to buy a whole eCig to find out how they work. I could have bought a pack of 10 atomizers (aka clearomizers) for £5.25 :(

That should provide a few sacrificial ones for adjusting-on-test with a hacksaw  !

Re: Smoke ! (again)

Thanks for the warning, good shout. I have done some quick googling just now and it appears to be related to misuse of the batteries (high energy density Lithium types) not the atomizer (wick and coil) which is the bit that I am playing with. Keep your fingers xxed and watch out for smoke in SW UK :...

Smoke ! (again)

Hi all, I had a (mad?) idea of adding smoke to my little Nscale building using an eCigarette gubbins. Not knowing anything about them I bought a cheapo (£4) off ebay to see if it could be adapted, it arrived yesterday and I cant see how to extract the smoke generating bit :( contained in the transpa...

Re: Laying the track on a grass mat

Yes, and why not, it is your railway after all ! A prime case of Rule 1 I think. So, to answer your question :- I dont see why not. I've not done it myself but I have a test oval of Peco settrack laid on folded kitchen roll on a table top. That runs ok, except that it is not pinned down so every now...

Re: Wordsworth Card Kits - FREE downloads

Hi all, thanks for your words of encouragement. "long live the three foot rule, or 18 inches" - I like it (had to google it first ! :) ) , yes that makes a lot of sense especially with my aged eyes ! "it makes the kit more personal all my kits are ready to go" - Indeed they are a...

Re: Wordsworth Card Kits - FREE downloads

Hi all, interesting suggestion by Bufferstop, I feel an ebay search for some envelopes is due :) I think my N gauge railway will soon have a new station building. (at least - - I thought that until I exposed it to the cruel light of a flash and a macro :( I think a Mk3 is needed. ) https://preview.i...

Re: Wordsworth Card Kits - FREE downloads

one of my early designs so long back. Hope this helps. Oh yes, so it is :) ! Still looks good to me  and I have chosen that one because the location I am modelling had an arched entrance with a stand alone water tower removed a short distance from it. Yep, I'll be doing that one later assu...
