Re: I'm undecided, again!
...as long as one wants non-automated point control then nothing really beats the stud and probe on a mimic diagram as it is so quick and easy, simple to install and repair and cheap... And intuitive and fun - that 's for the running lines. For yards I use slide swiches and rodding. It isn't possib...

Re: I'm undecided, again!
To be completely honest, as long as one wants non-automated point control then nothing really beats the stud and probe on a mimic diagram as it is so quick and easy, simple to install and repair and cheap. It is why when I went into DCC, I had no intention of going DCC for points as it just made thi...

Bachmann's New 7mm NG Venture!
While a few years ago Lionheart came out with some lovely finescale 7mm scale narrow gauge models in 0-16.5, their appeal did not practiacally reach into the realm of modellers with sharp space saving curves, though beautiful things they were... But now Bachmann have taken the plunge and their choic...

Re: RFID tags
Sounds a great idea. Part if the issue I had in the past was to try to number my tops code locos in such a way I could hide the four figre addresses in their numbers but I failed as there were too many duplicates with 37's and 47's without renaming and renumbering which was quite a job as for some i...

Re: RFID tags
Didn't Lenz make a reader device that read out decoder numers as they passed? I am sure they did back around the year 2000.

Re: Planning: Lessons Ive learnt
Only downside with planning ahead is that one can spend so much time planning ahead that one does not get to build anything! :D The esiest way I found in 00 to plan was to always have some set track curves handy to plan to work things out, even if one has planned to use wider curves in flexitrack......

Re: Dapol ex Mainline Dean Goods tender drive motor
Back to the drawing board? The wheel back to back measurement can cause de-railments at turnouts if this is out. Gears mashing could be a number of things. A split gear or a gear touching the bodywork. Not so easy to see. Think we have all been there when frustrated! :D Tomorrows another fresh new d...

Re: Failure and restarting
...main reason for going with older stuff is basically for the price of one new loco I have bought five, for the price of one new coach likewise bought five - they are no where near the quality of modern stuff, but "will do for now"... ...and since you know how to fix stuff, it will work ...

Re: Failure and restarting
Haha! Think most of us have done a bit of that from time to time. I believe that you mentioned you were a small scale modeller. I tried N gauge but found that in general 00 ran better. I did spend £500 out on H0e in the days when £500 stretched further (Before RTR 009 came on the scene) and due to t...

Re: GWR 0-4-2T's in OO
The point of interest for me is whether Dapol design it right, all metal up front to keep the centre of mass within the coupled wheelbase so traction is stable, plastic construction and all the light weight tackle to the rear. Bach's G5 0-4-4T with this construction is a thing of beauty; I am a lit...

Re: A Puzzle!
It actually was a very cleverly planned april 1st prank with subtle digs at various things for extra effect. The humour through the video while pretending to be serious is the fun part! I wonder how many took it in as being serious not realizing that it was a prank? There is me for a start! (Until I...
