Re: What are those little red and white squares on engine sheds?

The official term used for the signs is "Limited clearance" signs. These are placed to warn railway workers or traincrew etc that in these locations, if a train came there is no room for them to get out of the way so extra care needs to be taken to ensure ones safety.

Re: BR Gauge Wagon

Don't forget platform clearances and heights, though there was a specific tool for doing this so it didn't have to be done with those who were checking other clearances. I remember being show this handheld tool in use, but it would not surprize me if sucha wagon would also check for this. Another as...

Re: Interesting Prototype Railway...

0 gauge in standard gauge form comes into its own outdoors. I have seen really nice scratchbuilt rolling stock and locos on Youtube built specifically for garden railway use.

Re: Joining Track...

I have heard of carborundum track cutting disk breaking/shattering when in use. Can anyone please recommend a supplier which sell one's that don't break/shatter? Cant think but what I do recommend is either using a slightly wider disc which is just under 1mm thick or what I once did with much thinn...

Now that the now looks like it might start to melt, I'm thinking of dropping my plans for a window-sill T-gauge station and maybe working outside.
Cheers, Chris
Impressive!

Re: Llwyndrissi Halt.

I was thinking that, and I can also add a pin with a small loop at the top end to go down it and also add a drop loop, so that I can couple as well to other vehicles which have a protruding point on their buffer or somewhere else. The good thing about making drop loops is that they do couple to a nu...

Re: Llwyndrissi Halt.

I don't know. if the coupling has a name, but you'll find it on all sorts of (small) construction equipment. I think the three slots are to allow for the coupling eye being at a vertical angle to the slot. Making the slot taller would allow coupling but introduce additional play. You only have to l...

Re: Joining Track...

Yes, a very clever trick! I wonder if it works with track cutters?! Might have to work on my grip strength! Less likely to as I have found with track cutters, they snip the one side but the other side is usually not the same? (What words to use?) With a cutting disc, it cuts just the slot you are c...

Re: Llwyndrissi Halt.

I can ask thee guy I bought it from about that. Think they are available from one small company or another. Lots of bits and pieces can be found like that. I may put the coupling on the front of a little diesel instead? I do not know at the moment, escept I can easily use them with a drop loop which...
