Re: Shops in Essex

I'm literally 4 miles from Thurrock Lakeside, and therefore, about 7 miles from Bluewater. Not a model railway retailer amongst them! Chavs aren't interested in this hobby it seems. However, there is a real gem in Chelmsford: http://www.johndutfieldmodelrailways.co.uk/ It had all I needed to begin ...

Re: Class 3F - Tender Wheels Problem

Wheel problem solved, turned out the screws holding the ballast weight in place inside the tender were too long and had extended down into the rear wheel well and were preventing the wheels from turning. I switched the offending long screws and wheels are fine. Next job running on a decent decoder, ...

Removing Smoke Box Door on Jinty

After following the wrong instrucstions for getting to the dcc decoder on my Jinty (Instructions I had said it was on the side of the motor) I realised that once dismantled it was inside the boiler. So what the best way to get the smoke box cover off? I can't see any obvious slot for prying the cove...

Re: Class 3F - Tender Wheels Problem

Thanks guys, I have ordered the bearing tool and once I have the wheels turning I'll check out the decoder issue. The one I installed when I bought the loco was a Bachmann 21 oin decoder, but I have bought a couple of different decoders to check out their performance, so I will install a TCS EU621 (...

Class 3F - Tender Wheels Problem

Gents, My 3F (31-627) that I recently bought has a bit of a problem. I noticed the loco was very erractic when at slow speed and would speed up of its own accord, which was very annoying. When I started to look at the loco I noticed the rear tender wheels were not turning and could not be moved by a...

Re: Loose DCC Decoder

Hi Pete,

Yes the decoder is in the right way, as its a 21 pin I checked the pin orentation and connecting correctly is good. None of the pins are bent. I think I'll take it down to my nearest dealer tomorrow and see whats wrong.

Regards,

Mark

Loose DCC Decoder

Hi All, I decided on my latest loco purchase to try and fit the decoder myself instead of getting it fitted by the vendor. I bought a Bachmann 3F (31-627) with a 21 pin decoder. The decoder fits on the pins OK but its loose and is not a fitting snugly and so the loco will run. I can press it down fi...
