Re: 1361 class

Hattons have it for £124 Its a nice loco and would not mind it but wont be getting it at that price, if it was something i was more interested in then i would not mind as much. I do also like the look of the Class 1366 @ £124 but again its a bit to much for a 'casual' purchase I was looking at the ...

Re: Small Tank Loco for shunting

The locos listed by Bigmet are from the GWR, LMS and LNER. If your layout were to be Southern based I'd also recommend the ex USA 0-6-0 tank that Bachmann produced on behalf of the Model Rail magazine. The pair I have are excellent runners and very well detailed, the only issue could be their limit...

Re: Irish Mail Trains - LMS

Thanks all so far,

SO modelling any sort of representation of one of these trains is possible, although not sure that their are any LMS dining cars or mail vans available.

Irish Mail Trains - LMS

Hi All,

What would have been a fairly standard rake composition for an LMS mail train from Euston to Holyhead? Aytime in the 1930's. Also what loco would you expect to see hauling the train?

Thanks,

Mark

Re: Peco 00 track confusion

No poblem both Hornby and Peco settrack use code 100 rail, Peco Streamline code 100 track and points connect OK. I used to use sections of settrack curves at the centre of a curve in Streamline to ensure I didn't go tighter than intended. Used that way locos that didn't like going from straight to ...

Is there any way you can mix Hornby and Peco streamlined tracks?

Getting Some Ideas

I'm looking at old OS maps of what used to be behind my house that I would like to incorporate into my new layout. The attached shows a section of the line with a station at bottom right and a bracnh going off to the quays and a coal shed and yard. Looking at the size of the branch line to the quays...

Re: Class 3F - Tender Wheels Problem

The original decoder was a Bachmann and I changed it to a Lenz 10321-01 Silver 21. I am using a Lenz controller now also so keeping all the electronics from the same maker made sense (apart from the price).

Re: BR 0-6-0T Class J83 locomotive

I've been watching a good few YouTube visors on points wiring, motors, Dec decides for motors, the more I watch the More daunting it seems. Will post on Dec sub forum once the time comes to start the work. At the moment happy the J83 is running better for now, didn't want to discard it outright. Mark

Re: BR 0-6-0T Class J83 locomotive

Thanks Pete, I dismantled the loco to see what I could see, first thing there was alot of excess grease, I removed quite a bit and left enough around the gearing and on the axle bearings. I took the wheels out and checked the copper wipers, they looked OK but cleaned and gave them a bit of outward m...

BR 0-6-0T Class J83 locomotive

I got the subject loco with the mixed frieght set when I got back into the hooby and of all my loco's I now have its the one that has the poorest performance. I viewed a you tube review of the same loco that was also critical of the loco and I'm thinking now if its worth spending any more time and m...

Re: Removing Smoke Box Door on Jinty

Thanks Bigmet,

Dissambled agin last night and got the doecoder out as decribed. I'm still moving about any mechanics with the locomotives and didn't want to be pulling things out that look they may break on me.
