Track weathering

Hi,

I've been reading a few things on track weathering, and I am looking to get as close a match as I can to German railways - a deep brown/rust look.

Any ideas as to what paints/mix of paint would be best?

I read a few forums on having a gradient on a curve - suppose I was looking to have about 2 and a half inches in height where the track overlaps. The most a train would be pulling would be 5 carriages at most, so do you think I'd have sufficient length to manage this - or could i get away with what ...
