Re: Dublo Three Rail Layout
Here is one of my latest projects, slowly approaching completion. I had an old DJH Caledonian Railway 60 class kit - a very early one with a chassis that consisted of two rectangles of brass, with the holes drilled in slightly different places in each one, which didn't help in assembly. I gave up on...

Re: Baseboard legs
I used adjustable metal table legs from a major hardware chain (in my case, Bunnings, as I live in Australia). My layout is 8'x4' and I had the plywood (9mm) cut into three pieces so that the layout could be taken apart if it needed to be. Each piece of plywood was braced with whatever the metric eq...

Re: Analogue controllers
I use two Gaugemaster Combis to run my layout, and most of what I have is around 60 years old or older and I have no problems. If a locomotive draws more than one amp, it's overdue for an overhaul and shouldn't be running anyway.

Re: Cliches of Layouts or Model Railways that you dislike.
Spare or discarded wheel sets in yards and sidings. Apart from at a depot or a heritage railway this is something I've never seen on the real railway. I guess it could be the remains of stock that couldn't be moved and was cut up on site., but it wouldn't have pin point axles. Ken If the pinpoint a...

Re: Soldering alternative.
I used to avoid anything to do with soldering like the plague for decades, starting with my first (and not entirely successful) layout build in 1967. When I began construction of my current layout, about six or seven years ago I decided, as it was much more complex than the simple layouts I had atte...

Re: Are there any "real life" tight curves in railway tracks??
The Balerno branch of the Caledonian Railway had curves that were so tight (sorry, but I can't put a figure on it) that when they built new coaches for use on the line in 1920/21, they had to build four wheelers, as nothing else would go around the curves.

Re: Derailing Duchess
The overhang isn't really a problem, other than visually, as it was designed for tight curves. I have had this problem with a few of my locomotives, and it is invariably caused by either a bent bogie bar or (less frequently) back to backs on the bogie wheels (14.2mm for Dublo) being out of adjustment.

Re: Dublo Three Rail Layout
My current project is finishing a pair of GEM Cardeans, using three railed Tri-ang B12 chassis. As I have no need for two identical locomotives, I am finishing one in Caledonian blue and the other in early LMS red. I can see that the most time consuming exercise here is going to be the lining......

Re: Dublo Three Rail Layout
The latest additions to the locomotive stud are not Dublo at all, nor are they British outline. They are a pair of Lima Australian outline NSWGR C38 class Pacifics. For their day (1970ish?) they weren't bad models, although they were let down by the tender, which wasn't a C38 tender at all, but was ...

Re: lowest voltage that will move an OO loco
As for the Gaugemaster Combi, I use two of them for my Hornby Dublo 3 rail layout without any issues at all. If they can operate satisfactorily with 60-75 year old models (and that includes two with the old pre-war design of horseshoe motor), they shouldn't have any problems with more modern equipme...

... a rare "Southern" N2 ... did they ever venture any pre-group liveries? No but, according to Michael Foster's history of Dublo, when Tri-ang brought out their Lord of the Isles, someone brought one along to a meeting at Hornby of the people involved in forward product planning and sugg...

Re: Dublo Three Rail Layout
The ribs over the cab roof and coal rails around the bunker to add? I might put coal rails on it but, then again, maybe not. I am undecided on that, although I will be adding a coal load to the bunker. I was originally going to add ribbing to the cab roof but decided against it due to the difficult...
