The decoder I mentioned earlier, fixed to a sg90 servo. With a MERG mounting bracket.

Re: Points \ turnouts \ switches and polarity on DCC

Or use a servo with this decoder. Use a MERG mount.

Jim

Do join MERG - it's a great little club. Then you will get the September issue of their Journal. This has an article about a no-wires layout with 50 electrically operated accessories.

Re: Suitability or not for DCC

Just for the record, I have DCC-ed every type of Hornby Dublo loco - and they are 60 years old! They all operate brilliantly.

Re: DCC interference?

Dan Here is a CD of my PIC station stop with a reed input to detect goods trains. Note that this is the correct version - my post was in error over placement of the pull-up. One end of the reed goes to the input. The other end to your circuit 0V. The reed pulls RB5 low. Reed input2.jpg Feel free to ...

Re: DCC interference?

Dan The solution is simple: filter the input to your PIC. Here is the circuit I use: the reed is input to RB5 via a series 10k resistor, and a 100nF capacitor to 0V at the RB5 pin . There is a 47k pull-up to 5V - also at the pin. Works 100% reliably - even with locos running! I just use a single wir...

Re: Zimo MX600R and ABC

Two points:

You may not need to insulate the joints. The Lenz decoders I use don't respond to brief shorts.

You can make a BM1 from a 3.6V, 5W zener (1N3334) and aschottky diode (1N5817. Just two parts!

Re: New DCC decoder algorithm

Suzie Thanks for your interesting post. The proof of the pudding is that - so far - the point has worked faultlessly on my layout. I wouldn’t use edge detection in a loco decoder, but the accessory decoder electrical environment is more benign. I agree that noise could cause a missed switch. But the...

Re: New DCC decoder algorithm

I have now achieved my original objective: a decoder entirely inside an electric point. In this case a Hornby Dublo point. So I now have a completely wire-free DCC electric point! I used my simple decoder algorithm - it works well on my layout. The HD solenoid is 25 ohms. So I used 3 x 220uF SMD tan...

Re: Dcc controllers - newbie advice

Mostly we like the system we have. I have a Roco Z21, which I love. Check it out. I use an old IPad 2 as controller, and a Mulitmaus with a knob for shunting.

New DCC decoder algorithm

Yesterday I prototyped a new DCC decoder algorithm. Well it’s new to me. Has anybody used this idea before? I’d be amazed if they haven’t, as it’s so simple. I used a PIC 16F506 (obviously I could have used an 8-pin or even 6-pin version). This is how it works: 1 Find the positive leading edge of th...
