this is what puts me off posing a question, being interested in model railways and not too interested on their real life cousins, I have practically no knowledge at all of this and no real desire in doing copious amounts of research, to cover all bases.

Not 100% sure, but a spray of water / washing up liquid first may help. I seem to recall this from a previous thread, I haven't tried it myself. (I'm in the planning stages at the mo)
