Re: Latest model conversion from my workbench.

I finished this one in the last few weeks,a Kitmaster/Dapol kit body on a modiified Dublo Barnstaple chassis, the tender body was an exact fit on the Dublo tender chassis.Finshed as 92 Squadron in the early 1948 livery. 20200917_173419.jpg Ray.

Re: where are the members ???????

I`m a member of several Facebook groups, mainly on vintage trains,Hornby Dublo etc but you can`t treat them as a forum. The posts are ephemeral, there`s no search engine as such,it wasn`t designed for that,i`ve lost count of the times the same question has been asked and replied to,it`s got to the stag...

Re: Trix Twin Railway.

It`s a pity that British Trix in their wisdom chose to model the superbly free running Mk1 coaches in 3.87mm scale, here is one of my refinshed coaches in crimson & cream & a train of refinished SR green Mk1s behind a Dublo WC.The difference in scale is not so noticeable in a complete train b...

Re: Motor mounting with Zamac Rot

Afraid that's the way of it. It's all down to what goes into the pot when they mix the alloy. That Hornby got blighted by it in the 21st Century is pretty rich. The original research into what causes it was done by the Ministry of Supply in the early stages of WW2 when Meccano expressed their conce...

Re: replacing wheelsets in a hornby cl.71

Not really,i`ve been converting quite a few out of the ordinary models for a while now,for instance,a Graham Farish 00 4-6-0 Cl.5 with the original 2 pole motor but it wasn`t a howling success,it didn`t like Dublo 3 rail points.Would i do another one?,no. Re: replacing wheelsets in a hornby cl.71

When i was testing this loco,it was trundling around the layout for some time & then the PCB decided to give up the ghost with a resistor sparking & burning out.Result?,no lights. It`s a dual layered board so no chance of repairing it but i can live without the lights, they were a bit toylike ...

Re: replacing wheelsets in a hornby cl.71

The Hornby Cl.71 SR electric 3rd rail loco.I wanted to convert one of these as there is a dearth of Dublo SR locos. These were used to haul the Night Ferry from Waterloo which was the heaviest paseenger train at 800 tons in the UK at the time, they also hauled the Golden Arrow as well. The 3 rail conve...

Re: replacing wheelsets in a hornby cl.71

The point motors on Dublo 3 rail electric points are actually die castings,in all fairness,i shouldn`t think for one moment that it crossed their minds that some of us would be running stock that was never intended on this track. The dublo EMUs of which i have at least five never suffered from hittin...

Re: replacing wheelsets in a hornby cl.71

Yes,bachmann seem to have got it right, here`s a (rather shaky, down to ageing i guess) video of my Bachmann 4CEP conversion. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZGk-0CGBahY The E5000 is suffering teething problems, the collectors are too far apart & it stalls on a point leading on to a diamond crossin...

Re: replacing wheelsets in a hornby cl.71

Well,it works(sort of) ,it`s a bit stuttery at the moment because i havn`t got all the wheels connected together for the return path but the directional lighting works. One of the other annoyaces is that the moulded outside 3rd rail collectors slightly lift the loco off the rails on one or two 3 rail...
