We had a mini monsoon yesterday. Really hammered it down. The layout shed roof is still in good nick after 15 years. Still no leals.

Re: Barry Scrapyard Early 70s

Thanks for posting Jim.
They were all in terrible condition and you have to give credit to the presevation groups who must have put 1,000s of hours getting them back in steam.

Re: ROBINSON ROAD GOODS DEPOT - Layout No.2

I'd been scouring the internet for some suitable buildings for the depot for quite a while. Finally I decided on some from a company called "In The Greenwood".They are constructed of 3mm ply. I want to upgrade the buildings on ROBINSON ROAD from the Metcalfe card models (as good as they ar...

Thankfully we have a dog and the only thing he likes to do is hide his ball under the baseboards in the Layout Shed.

Re: ROBINSON ROAD GOODS DEPOT - Layout No.2

Next step is to build the baseboard. The original plan was to modify the 2 boards I use for running in my locos . That would have involved reducing the width of both boards and shortening the length of one. They both have MDF tops so they would need replacing. So I've decided to build a new one piec...

Re: ROBINSON ROAD GOODS DEPOT - Layout No.2

I think I'm going to enjoy this ! Not exactly a light bulb moment, but a crazy laughable thought. Remember the good old autochanger with records stacked ? How about doing it with layouts ? Several in a stack and move the one you want at any given time to the top to either use, or work on. Geoff T. ...

Goods yard over a fiddle yard - sounds familiar https://www.newrailwaymodellers.co.uk/Forums/viewtopic.php?f=22&t=33932&start=465#p654209 But you have decent clearance :D Jim Thanks for that Jim. I have a feeling that the track plan for ROBINSON ROAD will look very similar to the one here. ...

ROBINSON ROAD GOODS DEPOT - Layout No.2

Well after literally months of thought and head scratching I have finally made a start on my small layout. One grey, wet lock down day I was sat in the layout shed deep in thought. I decided that the only way to store this new small layout would be to devise some support structure above the fiddle y...

Re: MY NEXT POSSIBLE PROJECT (8' x 2' PORTABLE GOODS DEPOT LAYOUT)

We have lift off Houston lol. After months of lockdown lethargy and thinking about it I've finally struck the first blow and started constructing my small Goods Depot layout. I'll start a new thread in the 'Layouts under construction' thread. Not suprisingly the layout will be called 'Robinson Road ...

Re: MY NEXT POSSIBLE PROJECT (8' x 2' PORTABLE GOODS DEPOT LAYOUT)

Sat having a quiet moment or two in the layout shed earlier this week I decided after months of 'thinking' about it I needed to make some positive progress with this little project. The main stumbling block was where to store the Goods Depot layout when not in use. So after a bit of a think I decide...

Re: SHAPEWAYS COUPLINGS

Was just going to place an order for some Shapeways couplings price (£12.55) but it turns out the postage is nearly £10 so I'll give them a miss for now and stick with the good old tension couplings.
I'll look out for them when I next go to an exhibition whenever that maybe.

Re: The Purist

I'll just quote again what I heard a guy tell an exhibitor about his layout at an exibition many years ago. "You do know that those cows weren't introduced into this country till after the period you are modelling." The operator just gave him a smile then looked at me, shrugged his shoulde...

Re: Is it ok to mix Era

Some try to keep to even the correct traffic for a period they are modelling. Simply a matter of choice !! I run what I want, when I want, and mix GWR wagons from the 1920's with stock that wasn't manufactured until the late 1950's. As Glencairn says it's your railway so you set the rules - if ther...
