Re: How diverse is your loco collection?
Mostly what would have been seen in [or around] the heffield/Doncaster/Leeds area in the late '50/early '60s.
I'm just tryin' to recreate what I saw [and spotted] then.

Re: If you could tell yourself one thing...
Hi Rich ......I made two mistakes when I started out [eight years ago,at the age of 54]. 1. I did'nt really plan my "era & region" ......my original plan was for a BR "steam era" [1948-68] layout just "somewhere in England" using steam locos from all four Companies ...

Re: railroad tornado
Spray would be better for the loco body [boiler, tender etc] .....but it would get into places you dont need it to go when you spray the wheels. Personally [imho] :| .....I would use [sprayed] grey car primer on the body & tender ....and then a coat of clear [sprayed] laquer to seal the numbers/l...

Re: railroad tornado
Hi ....having "done" several LNER Apple Green locos into BR black, the best suggestion I can make is that you use a fine paintbrush and power the loco up to turn the wheels so that you can get to all of the spokes etc on the wheels.
hth .... [it works with matt black anyway]

Re: Planning a steam footplate drive
Looks like you had a good day out, did you get full usage of line ? I was reading and certain times of the year they don't let you go through kidermister tunnel and onto the station ? Might be wrong tho HI Tony .....it was Bewdley to Bridgenorth ....but tbh,I dunno if it was the same same package y...

Re: Flying Scotsman at NRM, York
I don't think an Pepercorn A1 or a Dutchess would have broken the record as nither of them where stremlined. The Stremlining on Mallard was one of the main reasons it got to 126mph! Jacob :D A Duchess has 40,000lbs of Tractive Effort, 4 cylinders & 6'9" driving wheels. An A4 has 35,450 lbs...

Re: Flying Scotsman at NRM, York
Given the oportunity ......a Duchess or Peppercorn A1 would probably have stood a good chance of beating Mallards 126 mph record.....as could possibly a GWR "King" class loco. However,as I said earlier ..... ["unless anyone wants to re-write the history books"] btw ...... The pos...
