Re: Shawhurst - SR/WR OO gauge layout

Not much activity recently, however today I’ve finally got around to adding detail to the station building on platforms 3 and 4. Next is to glue the platform canopy into position.

Some progress with the station.

Four sections of Ratio 515 canopy kit now completed. Next up is to complete two sections to join up the two station buildings across the concourse and another four sections up along the branch platform.

Re: Shawhurst - SR/WR OO gauge layout

Extension to the baseboard next to the main station building now in place and I’m currently working on providing a small car park (late 50’s – early 60’s car parks were small!), and turning the road entrance that fell of the edge of the baseboard through ninety degrees. After this it’s building the ...

Re: Shawhurst - SR/WR OO gauge layout

Main station building now at platform height with an approach road which leads off to nowhere! So now I’m going to add a 3 inch wide by 16 inches long extension to the baseboard and more road and a small car park. The station building itself is in the process of detailing. Some grass added around th...

Re: Shawhurst - SR/WR OO gauge layout

To me at long last Shawhurst is starting to look like a model railway! Ballasting completed and painted and today the main station building finally raised up to station platform height and with the station approach area is ready for painting and detailing.

Re: Seaton Junction

This brings me to another question, what was the speed limit through 'Seaton Junction' in 50's/60's? A link to West of England loco performance http://locoperformance.tripod.com/edition08/waterloowest.htm I'm impressed with your ballasting - I think if I had that much ballasting I'd end up going me...

Re: Shawhurst - SR/WR OO gauge layout

After a couple of weeks inactivity, a burst of energy on Sunday I painted all the cork inlay with a mix of Humbrol dark grey wash, 147 light grey matt and thinners to get the ash/smokebox char flat grey colour that I wanted as my base colour. Monday and Wednesday was spent ballasting the yard lines ...

Re: Shawhurst - SR/WR OO gauge layout

After completing track ballasting of the running lines and getting ready to ballast the sidings I took a step back and thought to myself I’m not fully happy with the look of the completed ballast. So after looking through a couple of Southern steam books containing colour photographs to remind me wh...

Re: Shawhurst - SR/WR OO gauge layout

I reckon that this is going to be about as good as the space could allow in 00 - the "full length" retaining wall is a bit of scenic trickery that could look over-bearing but actually looks perfectly natural. I like it all very much. Thanks for the photos. The whole layout is a station an...

Re: Shawhurst - SR/WR OO gauge layout

New Hornby station buildings arrived last week and placed in approximate positions. The main building will be raised up to match the platform height with a access road in front. The awning will be cut back to clear the siding track and both buildings repainted BR SR colours and more details added. B...

Re: Shawhurst - SR/WR OO gauge layout

Really enjoying your thread showing progress on your layout 'Shawhurst'. Another good example of what can be achieved in a relatively small area. I like the way you've used the retaining walls as part of the back scene. Very effective. Although born and brought up deep in Midland Railway territory ...

Re: Shawhurst - SR/WR OO gauge layout

That is a really nice layout coming together there, like the scissors crossing, not something that is regularly modelled. Will keep an eye on this thread as it develops. Jim My original layout plan, which I had arrived at after many iteration’s didn’t include the scissor crossing. See attachment be...

Re: Shawhurst - SR/WR OO gauge layout

Since Christmas the station and running lines track ballasting has been completed along with completing the laying of cork inlay between the yard and siding track. Next up is make and place yard point operating levers and boarding and then to ballast the sidings, and where applicable the cork inlay ...
