Comparison of features between ESU systems

If you can offer advice or information about the two ECOS DCC systems, please enlighten me! I am looking at the differences between ESU ECOS and their new CabControl system (or PIKO equivalent). I currently run DC and am interested in making the switch to DCC. Approaching this as a novice trying to ...

Re: My first model railway build.

That is looking stunning. How many locos are you planning to run on there?

Re: Evagraven - OO gauge in the 1960s

Nearly a month gone by already. If only real life could be paused with some kind of digi accessory! I'll put some new pics up over the weekend. The rock face behind the sidings is coming on nicely. Metman's write up of celotex was a great inspiration, brilliant stuff to work with. Looking pretty sim...

Re: Chris Brown (Emettman)'s workbench

Brilliant inventions Chris!

The little red dock shunter was one of my favourites, mostly because he seldom de-railed and had a little light. Important stuff when you're seven. Or a bit older. What will be done with the lighting on yours?

Re: Evagraven - OO gauge in the 1960s

The scenery plan is coming on steadily... sneak peek in the diagram. Sorry the image quality is iffy. The faded out sections sit behind a rock wall so the eye will be limited to the main focus of the diagram.

But first there is a lot of ballasting to do.

That's a beautiful layout you've built there. I love the J94s.

Re: Evagraven - OO gauge in the 1960s

This shot looks back along the mainline towards Western Approach sidings. The intention is for fencing to segment the mainline from the line behind, which is the approach into the sidings. I'm still thinking about how best to achieve that. There is about 1" clearance between the lines to play wit...

Re: Evagraven - OO gauge in the 1960s

Our trusty Terrier trundles round on his way from the mainline to the Parkway branch line. Of all the fleet the Terriers are the happiest negotiating the points and despite using insulfrogs seem more than content to trundle along on 20% power. I think in scale terms that's around 20mph. Duchess of S...

Re: Evagraven - OO gauge in the 1960s

Thank you for suggestions guys! Heda's tip was absolutely spot on and a couple of £3 drill bits later I was delighted to find the mimic panel taking shape. The first of four panels is now built, installed and touch wood, it's passed two weeks of me fiddling (cough) testing. It's been a busy two week...

Re: Evagraven - OO gauge in the 1960s

Hi Chris, Thanks for the welcome! Yes lots of sidings on the bottom level. Less upstairs of course. The plan is for most of the rolling stock to live partially out of sight and away from dust and accidents. When in use they will edge out onto the bottom loop with the aid of some terriers before whiz...

Evagraven - OO gauge in the 1960s

And finally, this weeks' project... Points. I've pinned four PECO PL11s to the board and rough testing shows them clicking over beautifully. There's a CDU in position too, and an optimistic reel of cable and a pile drill bits lying around. The next step is to attempt a mimic/control panel. I've got ...

Re: Evagraven - OO gauge in the 1960s

DSC_0147.jpg Ahem, not been tidied in a few days. Note the blood red colour theme. In anticipation for a top deck over what I have there I am going for an 'earthy' scenic look. Exposed rock faces, iron girders supporting precarious embankments, pools of water collecting outside inky caverns, tumble...

Evagraven - OO gauge in the 1960s

The plan is to create a double deck arrangement (I have tested a few locos up and down exaggerated gradients and they are pulling like a train) of which this is the base level. The base level will be primarily for marshalling and storage so you could say the real fun therefore comes later. Still, in...

This is roughly what I have down at the moment. Whilst building I added two extra points between sidings.
