Re: Dragonfly's Workbench

I have found a very cheap source of tension locks, at last (Replica Railways do packs of 10 for £3.50), so that option is now back on the table of possibilities. I'd have to make NEM pockets though (or glue the couplings in place), so will have to have a tinker at making some, while waiting for Rep...

Re: Inspiration Required For 'O' Gauge Layout Please.

I have had a thought. N gauge needs a 2ft wide board. 00 gauge needs a 4ft wide board as 00 gauge is around twice the size of N. Now 0 gauge is almost twice the size as 00 so in theory will it mean that it needs an 8ft wide board or wider? I am not sure, but for planning purposes this information w...

Re: Micro layout in O-16.5

The big question still remains and that is the whereabouts of the eighth Hobgoblin. Is it still at loose or has it also been contained. I fear it went the same way as the other 7 - but don't fret too much anyone, Mrs.Penguin has promised to replenish supplies following the mysterious disappearance ...

Re: Dragonfly's Workbench

Hmmm, an interesting source of, as you say very cheap, O-16.5 wagons :D. A very economical way to build up a sizeable collection. I'll be interested to see how these turn out, and maybe purchase some myself . . . BTW, as I use tension lock couplers, I purchased some of these which come with little '...

Re: 00 gauge micro layout

Hi Berryman, it seems we are both building micro layouts at the same time :D - best of luck with yours - looks to be a great start so far . . .

Yeah, for track painting, I used Rail Match 'sleeper grime' spray - though I am now proceeding to cover most of it in deep ballast!

Re: Micro layout in O-16.5

Thanks 8) I also dug out the piece of plywood I had ear-marked for the back-scene, and, like all badly-stored ply the world over, it was warped . So, as it is a sunny day, I dampened the concave side and laid it on the garden path weighted down to try to straighten it. Not 100% successful - i...

Re: Micro layout in O-16.5

Thanks for your interest and comments . . . Nice start. What's next ? Well, first I sprayed the track with 'sleeper grime' to coat the sleepers and sides of the rails - and then cleaned the rail tops of course - although this will largely be concealed as I intend to cover the sleepers in ballast as ...

A bit more progress this weekend :D Firstly the whole board and frame was given two coats of MDF sealer: https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7857/46353881045_6eac4123db_b.jpg IMG_9415 by Pink Nosed Penguin , on Flickr I decided, after the very noisy running on my N gauge layout, to try some rubber underl...

Re: Micro layout in O-16.5

I did and only just getting around to working out what I did, all so long ago !! It was I recall quite complex ... Thanks yeah that's what I thought  - I'll probably go with some kind of steel girders/panels approach - as you say the bridge is not very long . . . Love the trackwork, makes me...

Re: Micro layout in O-16.5

Hi PNP, I've not been involved as much as once ...... I'm so used to you being 'N', leaping to 7 mm scale is something else !! I like the cut-away to get some depth, it'll be quite a narrow 'cut'. Still I'm not surprised by you getting some height 'cos you did it to good effect before. Geoff T. Tha...

Re: St.Oval - A scenic Set Track Oval

Hi Geoff, I seem to have missed this thread - and I see it goes back a long way :o! A great layout with very simple track plan but superb scenic potential. You may have noticed I have started a small roundy roundy of my own here - which is considerably smaller :D. I wonder if you could explain how y...
