Re: N or oo gauge

i think it depends first on the space you have available and what you want to achieve from the railway. bear in mind you are able to fit about 4x as much in N gauge as you are in 00 gauge. the next thing to consider is the availability of desired stock for your era. the final thing is the amount of ...

Re: How long platfrom for 8+2 HST set in OO?

if you're using the shortie coaches then you'll have more room to play with. i think these are 25cm long-ish? so a full 8+2 would be about 7ft long if close coupled? even if you want to run short coaches i would recommend running Lima power cars. the liveries are more accurate, as is the general sha...

Re: Modelzone - from the USA questiion

... There's another in Clapham, but it looks pretty dismal - I've not been in, largely due to the fact that it hardly ever seems to be open. Can't remember what it's called, though... Russ Models on Battersea Rise, SW11... Russ is shut now I believe. It was meant to have been a good model shop in i...

Re: Modelzone - from the USA questiion

i wouldn't bother with Ian Allen. the Waterloo store is tiny and isn't really worth the trip out. Jane's Trains is quite good, but would probably take an hour to get to from central. That one in Clapham (or is it Croydon?) you're referring to I have actually been once when it's open. It could probab...

Re: Modelzone - from the USA questiion

Northfields model shop is a good one, and not far from central on the Picadilly line. Store is a bit of a mess but it is jam-packed with stock. But as above, London is not a good place for model railways. Model railways need space, which is non existent in London and model shops cannot afford to pay...

Re: Birmingham New Street in P4

Hi Jim, Great work as always. I wasn't aware that Mk3B TSOs didn't exist. I only have one Jouef Mk3 atm but this means I will have some TSOs "spare". Do you know of anyone who produces roof vents to convery Lima Mk3s to Mk3As? The curvature of the Jouef Mk3 seems a little wrong. I think pu...

Re: Model zone Holborn open AGAIN.

I went there on Friday and I would like to know is why is it so small and were are the Bachmann stuff I could only see Hornby. There were a few in the cabinet, but very little - if I only want Hornby, I could just go to my local department store or toy shop. indeed - if i were in central London and...

Re: Modelzone in administration Further Developments

Don't think I've ever been to the Deansgate store (maybe as a child), but I have had dealings with the Signal Box at Ally Pally this year and even from my brief encounter I hope that they make it through this. Certainly the independent stores that were bought out sound like they still had something ...

Re: Modelzone in administration Further Developments

Whilst I do feel bad for those working in MZ I can't help but feel that this might be good for the independent model shop so there is always an up side. MZ was taking a share of the market some of which hopefully will now go towards the independents. Overall maybe it'll be good for the consumer as m...

Re: 00 gauge Mk4s - what should I do?

yep you're right. Keen systems do a TOE end though, which essentially just needs spraying black and sticking on. what's more of an issue is where the underframe is attached to the bogie rather than the body on the ends. Hurst models make some brass parts, but like everything else on their website it...

Re: 00 gauge Mk4s - what should I do?

Well I am hoping that Bachmann step up and do a new version rather than Hornby. The model will probably be better detailed, have a price that is more reflective of the features available and less likely to have supply issues or manufacturing faults. Bachmann do seem to have started taking on Hornby ...

00 gauge Mk4s - what should I do?

Hi guys, I was wondering if I could ask for some opinions. I have recently completed an Intercity Swallow 225 rake to run on my proposed layout. (Or I thought I had - turns out I'm missing a TO but never mind.) I was considering getting a 2nd rake as I've recently ordered a Silver Fox Models (former...

Re: ASTONS TOY AUCTION

no what i meant was i already own the items that i would have otherwise liked on that auction. it's happened a lot recently that i've bought something, and then come across it somewhere else for a lot less money. in fact those cursed Class 20s is a prime example - literally 3 days after I bought one...
