Re: Hawick via Grantham, Inverness and SIAM (00 gauge DC)

I think I chose just the right moment to pop back in and check up on progress on Hawick. What a magnificent build and all done in such speedy time. Mike, your attention to detail all along this build has been exceptional and well worth those painstaking efforts. Magnificent work and no doubt y...

Re: Gateside and Northbridge (Incorporating the Allanshaw Inglenook)

Lovely work LMB. You’ve nailed the weathered look of the old line and the reinforcement thingymijig is a nice touch.

Re: Building smoke?

End2end, that’s very interesting and something I must bear in mind when I reach the stage of populating the layout.

Re: Building smoke?

There’s an Australian guy on YouTube, Luke Towan, who has just uploaded a video on modelling a waterfall. As part of the scene he uses wadding teased out to represent the spray thrown up by the cascading waters. I can’t help but think that this method could be converted to represent smoke instead. O...

Re: Jinty stay alive

I’ve done it but it was damn fiddly and frustrating. As you’ll know, the Jinty has the minimal amount of space available to install a decoder so I found myself having to store the capacitor in the boiler space with all wires wrapped as tight as if allow round it. I think I also had to use a specific...

Re: Derby Friargate LNER Garage Layout

The work being carried out in that corner of the layout is quite something Coops. The choice of buildings, shape of the yard and the curve in the road all help to disguise the awkward filling of corners on a layout. What kit did you modify to produce the building? I’m all for the painted signage on ...

Re: Galgorm Hall 00 Gauge Loft Layout

Thanks Ex-pat, I wasn’t even aware Slaters did it. I think I’ll order a sheet when I’m next getting brick card and at least it’ll be in stock for further metal making.

Re: Galgorm Hall 00 Gauge Loft Layout

Hi Jim, no, I’ve been a little quiet of late on here. Still dropping in but haven’t been commenting. Hope the biscuits went down well. Coops, you and me both. The work has started on this with plaster bandage. I ran out of the stuff though so more is on order. Once that’s complete, I’ll do the track...

Re: Gateside and Northbridge

Jim,

I hope the weather was as grimy, wet and cold as it was here, the bridge is looking epic and I need to see more progress.

Re: Galgorm Hall 00 Gauge Loft Layout

Thanks all for the kind comments. LMB, the included diagram is a useful one and I’ll log it for future builds. PNP, the bridge is sitting parallel to the walls but the line runs on a slight curve which means, if looking from above, there is a gap between the girders and the baseboard that will need ...

Re: Galgorm Hall 00 Gauge Loft Layout

Thank you 8vchris. A month has passed since my last post and little has happened. This fact is partly due the glorious weather making the loft way to hot to work in and secondly spending too much time building the next bridge on the branchline side of the layout. Using the same methods as before the...

Re: Millsend Layout - OO Gauge Sixties Midland

Jim, you’ve got to slow down or you’re going to run out of things to build. Another superb one in the offing though. The Faller system could maybe be put to use in making those little wagons movable in the shed!

Re: Timbersurf's Competition Entry for 2018.

Very nice paintwork going on there Timbersurf. Are rubber bands the right choice for tensioner? Will these not deteriorate and become brittle in time?
