Re: Best oo gauge class 37

There really is not much to choose from the Bachmann and ViTrains releases however the former does run smoother

Absolutely and a word of advice don't let the purists get you down with their belittling opinions and comments which so often get thrown in my direction.

Re: So what did Father Christmas bring you?

Got spoiled earlier in the year with a Heljan/Hattons Class 28, Heljan Class 23 and a Heljan DP2. Splurged out on myself when the wife wasn't looking on a Bachmann Class 45. So the answer to your question is a motorized Bachmann Class 45 Chassis for a bargain price and a Mainline Class 45 Body to re...

Re: Your experience with buying used locos?

Overall it is positive but their are things I would recommend. Take care when using auction sites unless you are absolute certain of what you are getting. Don't get me wrong some real bargains can be had using this method. Some local Model Shops offer a large amount of secondhand but you are most li...

Re: Best OO scale Class 47

Not a question you will get a definitive answer to as people expect different levels of accuracy from their models. Appearance wise I would say the ViTrains release but the Motor is not the best. Heljan is the best in this department but then one needs to be careful when purchasing not to get an ear...

Re: Evening Star cab detailing

Given the current offers available on the Bachmann 9f it would seem the Hornby release is now less of a bargain. That being said ironically the Hornby 9f seems to have the better haulage power be it slight. As to the Cab Detail Bachmann could certainly have gone the extra distance for the original R...

A very good point and one that is frequently overlooked.

Re: Heljan Products Deserve better treatment by the Critics

Jim I have no doubt that they are Red but my gripe is it is tacky bright red colored plastic. Just like some of the old Lima had tacky yellow colored plastic on the noses. One would have thought Bachmann would at least have gone to the trouble of toning it down a little.

Re: Heljan Products Deserve better treatment by the Critics

Heljan do get knocked for leaving out details such as Roof Fans on releases however at the same time they cannot be beaten for Buffer Beam detail. On the subject of Roof Fans I just treated myself to a Bachmann Class 45 and it is utterly spoiled by a huge horrendous Red Plastic Roof Fan making it lo...

Re: Bachmann Mk1's Southern Region Green

Cant say Ive noticed a difference on the MK1's unless your referring to the Older Bachmann Bulleid Coaches... which were lighter... and the new re-released ones which have a much darker green? Definately Standard Mk1's. In this case 39-128B Corridor CK which is much darker than the original 39-128 DP

Bachmann Mk1's Southern Region Green

I have just purchased some new Bachmann Mk1's in SR Green to go with the initial batch that was released and I notice the Green is considerably darker. Is this correct and was the shade of Green on the earlier SR Green Bachmann Mk1's wrong.

Re: Heljan Products Deserve better treatment by the Critics

But you amalgamate all the various bits from different manufacturers to come up with the very best you can. The vast majority of people who buy these models will buy what they see, never change or improve it and be perfectly happy. And if that is what you want, Heljan are the best at it. I disgree,...

The Heljan Baby Deltic is a truly outstanding release only slightly let down by the fonts on the Head Codes they don't look quite right. But I like can live with that.

Re: Lima Motor Servicing - A must for smooth running

Very thorough guide indeed and useful to some but apart from reduction of sound when running does it noticeably improve performance which is more important.
