Re: JAMES MAY'S BIG TROUBLE IN MODEL BRITAIN 06/03/19

i didn't notice it enough to bother me and thought it was a bit of an over reaction (i fall into the generally looks OK and i am happy rather then historically accurate) but it was his point about it being in the range for years to come & that it was important to get it right that made sense. We...

Re: JAMES MAY'S BIG TROUBLE IN MODEL BRITAIN 06/03/19

As far as the 66 goes it is just providing exactly what so many on here have asked for, a basic "no frills" loco that will look the part in motion when viewed from around three feet. Sounds just the sort of "in tune" decision that Simon K was known for. It will be interesting, I...

Re: JAMES MAY'S BIG TROUBLE IN MODEL BRITAIN 06/03/19

You could view it the other way around as the retailers competing with the manufacturer. It was an interesting watch, the build up was for rails reaction, but thought Hattons kicking off was more fun! It could be they had their first reactions filmed and rails got their swearing out of the way befor...

Re: JAMES MAY'S BIG TROUBLE IN MODEL BRITAIN 06/03/19

I enjoyed watching it, the tool scrapping was rather sad as you never know when they could be useful - it’s not as if they are short of space! But it’s probably as others have said tools that wouldn’t have been reusable anyway The only bit that got to me was the seemingly 20 minutes they filmed the ...

Re: Thoughts which may help the manufacturers, the trade and the modellers alike.

In reality think it’s probably blurry between the two types, looking at my collection/layout for example: I have the largest radius curves I could fit in, not for realistic running but for reliability - I have avoided R1 curves at all costs. Looking at the rest of the track layout etc it’s very much...

Re: Do the increasing prices of model railways effect how much you spend?

less, like Jim i have a rough ceiling of £100 for locos that moves them from being 'impulse buys' to more exceptions and even then they are reaching the point of too expensive to consider, a few quid extra for something i really like is OK but some are now double this! coupled with everyday life get...

rather jealous of that, i really want one as it looks like it would be a lot of fun to run it but cant justify the cost

My biggest bit of advice is to buy a point to play with, it really helped me to get my head around them

Re: Old Triang Princess Royal

I would still drop them a message explaining the issue, with any luck it will help them improve so it does not happen again.

Good luck with the fix :)

If the others can’t find them let me know, I think I might have some but can’t rememer without digging about

Re: Hattons Pre-owned - whats your experience?

Thanks guys, really appreciate the input. I might give Hattons another look, they are more expensive then ebay but if the returns is easier might be worth paying a little more. My main worry is not wanting to get stuck with something thats more hassle then its worth and by the time i get it sorted I...

Hattons Pre-owned - whats your experience?

Hey guys, Thought i would pick your brains a bit, I had a few bad experiences in a row buying second hand locos (not from hattons but from ebay, shows etc) which really put me off - my thought process was to buy less overall but get something new i knew would be OK. I still buy rolling stock etc sec...

Re: Lots to learn!

Your right the set track has different radius curves, the R605's you refer to are first radius with each one getting larger (taking up more room) from there The big issue/warning with this is most locos need a minimum of 2nd radius curves to run, if you go to tight the wheels wedge and the loco deta...

Re: Oxford Rail offer the J27 NER/LNER/BR 0-6-0

Hatton's have announced a price - a reasonable £104 for the basic model, becoming even more tempting! Jim Apparently it’s an estimated price & people who place orders will be updated with the actual price once it’s known with option to cancel order I’m hoping it accurate as it’s much more reaso...
