Thanks for the comments so far. I have considered using mod rock although I call the base foam it is acutally insulation board made from volcanic ash used to insulate the outside of houses. It's quite easy to cut yet I can stand on the board and it will support my weight. It does have look of pumice...

Good thread. I have an Ardunio laying around that I used to use for high speed photography. but I am no good at programing
