Re: Hornby mallard wont reverse
The idler gear split is unusual. Normally in my experience it is the driven gear on the axle that splits. I have seen gears repaired using superglue and baking soda although this would be only if a replacement could not be sourced. The idler gear is most likely a common gear across the range, howeve...

Re: Dapol turbot ballast wagon
The more I look at the Turbot the more I think do Dapol really have any idea these days. Although in hindsight Dapol are no worse than many recent Hornby offerings with couplers extending way forward of the buffer faces. This may be important for those using radius 1 and maybe radius 2 curves, but B...

Re: Bachmann split chasis A4 body swap
This blog shows the DCC ready chassis. Might be helpful as regards mount locations. http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/blog/880/entry-10376-streaks-and-highlights-%E2%80%93-weighing-up-bachmann-a4s/ A read of this forum infers that only the chassis was upgraded. https://www.lner.info/forums...

Dapol turbot ballast wagon
I was interested in a few of these in Dutch livery, however, looking at the images it seems that the entire coupler body is forward of the buffers. This would indicate around two centimetres distance between coupled buffer faces. This is taking trainset curves to the max!!!!!!!! I wonder if provisio...

Re: Oxford Rail N7
I think I might play the waiting game with these, see if they get discounted in 6 - 12 months time. With multiple reported failures of the BP Janus and continued reported failures of the Dean Goods, I will also be holding off purchasing an N7. I simply have no trust that OR have sorted out their as...

Re: Metropolitan Bo-Bo
Tony, I just received a few as new GWR (pre-1908 livery) Graham Farish suburban coaches to go with my early livery "City of Truro" and was astonished how spirited the bidding was on those that Ray had listed on his eBay site. He had quite a few listings and I had actually given up any chan...

Re: Removing dcc
Assuming that the decoder is not hardwired, then very simple to remove. You need to know how many pins are on the DCC socket and source a suitable blanking plug. Remove the DCC components and fit the blanking plug. Depending on the quality of the decoder then removal may not be necessary. Quality de...

Re: Metropolitan Bo-Bo
I just received the first of two locomotives from the sale. Received today was Metropolitan #19. Definitely worth the wait, this is a superb model. I did not use the drop down NEM couplers supplied but went for a level Bachmann type. It was a little nerve wracking fitting the coupler given the added...

Re: Hornby make attempt at World Domination
The Belmond Pullman Train Pack R3750 does seem excellent value at Hattons (GBP203.50), given that the standalone Belmond class 67 is GBP144.00 each. Thus making the Pullmans rather inexpensive or has a big mistake been made? Could the train pack class 67 be the ex-Lima tooling with plastic chassis a...

Re: Hornby 2019 Range Speculation Thread
It does seem odd with all the hype and tooling over the P2 (and no subsequent release) that a Bugatti nosed version has not been forthcoming. Also, perhaps a "Prince of Wales" to accompany the "Tornado". Both could be released with very little tooling expense. Perhaps more wartim...

Re: Papier Mache
Hi, Is there any reason why papier mache is either not or is rarely used in scenery production? I have not seen or read of anyone using it. Am I wrong, or is there some reason? It takes a long time to dry and if using the flour based glues we used a generation or more ago then mould could cause pro...

Re: Hornby 2019 Range Speculation Thread
I did some online reading about a warner bros/DC comics deal with Hornby, apparently there's talk of trainsets (potter?),scalextric(batman...again?) and corgi (both series diecast?) possibly. But warner bros or whoever said they had "big plans" with hornby in 2019. Many years ago LGB did ...

Re: Class 71
Apparently, the motor is not particularly reliable on the Hornby version. Reports of multiple motor failures. It continues to shock/amaze me that a GBP120.00 plus model can have a motor I can source from China for about one quid including airmail postage. As SRman has stated there are issues fitting...

I did like the Chinese class 110 with five-pole plus the retooled ex-Lima class 101.
