Re: Hornby or Bachmann 08?
Actually Jeff, there is something. I installed DCC sound in my Hornby 08 (agree about the detail, very good indeed), but it would chronically stall over points (frustrating because it has to go through the startup cycle every time). I tried a lot of things to improve pickup and even get some flexibi...

Re: Resin buildings vs plastic sheet building - Which is bet
To some extent I agree with Parkend. I have nothing against resin buildings as produced by Hornby and Bachmann, they are usually well done. The only niggle is that they become a little too common. The range is such that they are not quite as common as Metcalfe or Superquik though. I like plastic scr...

Re: OO Scale Class 28 Lancashire and Yorkshire Locomotives
Where do I begin...? Alan Gibson Workshop ( http://www.alangibsonworkshop.com/ ) is a great resource. Wheels, frames, fittings etc. Markits ( http://www.markits.com/) are very good too. Known mainly for wheels. Mainly Trains ( http://www.mainlytrains.co.uk/acatalog/index.html) carry some Gibson and ...

Re: Which DCC System for shunting
I think it's going to be more down to your locos and decoders than the DCC system. I have no experience of the Hornby DCC system but I am suspicious. For me, I would choose a system from one of the DCC manufacturers - Lenz, NCE, Digitrax etc., rather than one from Bachmann or Hornby. Recently I have...

Re: OO Scale Class 28 Lancashire and Yorkshire Locomotives
Quite agree B308, these kinds of kits are a far cry from the Airfix sort that I, and I'm sure many others grew up with. Being able to work with brass and whitemetal, and solder same, is a necessity. Kits frequently tend to be quite old (I don't know about this one though) and designed for long obsol...

Agree. The only Hornby decoder I ever bought was for the light switch in my non driving trailer of Cl 108.

I do agree, mine's the Bachmann, I haven't much patience for traction tyres.

Re: Hornby 4F R3030 LMS livery
Well done Tim. My friend has one and removed the tyres - it seems to run OK without them. He was also miffed at its running qualities so I took a look. Sure enough it did run lumpily. Usually I like to adjust some of the CVs (like start voltage) but my NCE wouldn't read the decoder, which I thought ...

OK, I goofed. There's no indication in the OP or Hatton's link that these are that old.

Re: R2660m NORFOLKMAN Coaches
Looking at pictures on Hatton's site: http://www.ehattons.com/25256/Hornby_R2660M_The_Norfolkman_train_pack_with_Britannia_class_7MT_loco_3_BR_Mk1_coaches_in_BR/StockDetail.aspx The question I would have is whether the coaches are Hornby's latest Mk 1 (which I have read are quite good) or the earlie...

Re: Worse Runner with the Body On
The extra wires frequently cause me problems. I suggest you look for areas of tightness and try removing material from inside to relieve it. I just had a similar problem and some judicious pruning resolved things. Another thing is that if the body screws are too tight, the chassis can twist slightly...

Re: Wills viaduct kit
Tim, if the Wills plastic has becomes brittle and I found the same when trying to salvage some brick arches, I suggest the pieces be remanufactured. If you face Evergreen or Slater's sheet (or similar) with Slater's or SE Finecast embossed plastic sheets, I think you'll find that these parts would b...
