Re: Building wagons with long wheelbases

Agree about HMRS Stuart - trying to get a 6 digit number laid down using tiny numerals and all in a line is really a trial for the eyes. I've used Modelmaster for BR stuff and they are excellent. The made up numbers are much easier to apply but somewhat limiting. HMRS transfers can be purchased reta...

Re: Bachmann replacement wagon wheels

Ian, I think you and I are in agreement (not violent I hope). The latest Bachmann and Hornby wheels, as I said, are really quite good and hold their own with more expensive wheels IMO. (I wouldn't be surprised if they were good enough for EM - must do some measuring.) I remember the split axle wheel...

Re: Bachmann replacement wagon wheels

Ex-Pat your concerns are well founded. Those wheels are not the best that Bachmann do, in fact they are from an early generation of wagons. What you need is something like this: http://www.ehattons.com/stocklist/1000393/1000588/1000655/0/Bachmann_Branchline_OO_Gauge_1_76_Scale_Wheel_sets/prodlist.as...

Re: GWR coach transfers

Yes you can try that. I made lining transfers for my rake of LSWR coaches (there's a thread here somewhere), using Powerpoint and Microscale transfer sheets. It worked well. However, I only did it because there were no commercial transfers available. You can buy purpose designed coating sprays from ...

Ah, to quote John Cleese "I had not fully divined your intentions".

If there is such a thing, Larry Goddard will know: http://larrygoddard.webs.com/

Good luck with your search.

Re: LMS TPO brake Stowage Van.

Yes, BT, there's a kit from 247 Developments: http://www.247developments.co.uk/lms_coaches.html Looks like you will have to collect the bits for the full kit but perhaps a call will clear that up. I haven't used 247 so I don't know what they're like. Comet Models do a lot of LMS coach kits but not t...

Re: GWR coach transfers

These sheets can be frustrating. There is a lot of stuff, but usually you only need a small fraction. Then again, you sometimes need one or two more of some bits than supplied. The other thing is that you have make up the coach numbers yourself - very fiddly.

Re: GWR coach transfers

The best transfers I know of are from HMRS:

http://www.hmrs.org.uk/transfers/transf ... ferid=1011 also

http://www.hmrs.org.uk/transfers/transf ... ferid=1010

Price is 6.50.

Fox and Modelmaster might do something similar.

Re: new underframe for Lima wagons?

Indeed Ian, there's not a lot to go on in the OP. A picture of the wagon positioned over a ruler would be useful.

Re: new underframe for Lima wagons?

I'm assuming here that the wagons are Private Owner (PO), 9' wheelbase and unfitted as these are the most common. These tended to have common designs spec'ed by the Railway Clearing House (RCH). I would therefore recommend the Slater's/Coopercraft 1923 RCH 9' WB underframe kit S4046: http://shop.coo...

Re: Slow Action Point Motors

I know of two alternates Stephen: First for reference, DCC Supplies lists the Tortoise at 14.00 1) Cobalt from DCC Concepts. About 16.00 from Gaugemaster 2) Fulgurex. Priced at about 10.00 at DCC Supplies I confess I've never used Fulgurex so can't comment. I have used Tortoise and Cobalt and for my...

Re: Pug enhanced

Very impressive looking models. Liking the tender very much. One comment though (I know I'm an old pedant  ), the tender has an axle box reinforcing bar. These tended to be fitted to wagons that were converted from unfitted to fitted while leaving the 4 brakes in place. I doubt your tender is ...

Re: A Rake of LSWR Coaches

I agree Pete, the Victorians and Edwardians really knew how to design locos and other vehicles for esthetics. Trouble is you are generally stuck for RTR pre group stock if you want to model a train. There are some glimmers on the horizon - I'm thinking of the SECR Birdcage stock.

Pete, I built these for a friend (for a price of course). He has the Hornby T9 in LSWR livery.
