Re: Early 1960s Mineral flows along the Thames Valley

Also in the same area and timescale, what were fitted bauxite 16T minerals used for as against unfitted grey 16T minerals? At that time, I would expect them to be just randomly mixed (albeit in small numbers) with unfitted ones. Block working of them mostly came later, with diesel haulage and proba...

Re: Plausible WR Passenger Operations?

Not just borrowed but permanent transfers; 'ordinary' Gresleys (and Thompsons) were seen as fair game for this, particularly as they approached obsolesence. Specialised stock rather less likely, simply because it was at a premium and more closely controlled, however the odd transfer could and did h...

Re: Slate Wagons

BR used shock absorbing high goods wagons on the Welsh traffic, I've also seen one pic that suggests shock vans may also have appeared. As for Ballachulish, it's something I looked into myself some years ago and never found anything

Re: Bachmann, no new OO announcements for 2020

I'm wondering if Bachmann cancelled the previous announcement because Hornby announced the same model due out this year, possibly the 2mt, the Thompson disasters or even the APT... I would take the view that was expressed earlier in this thread by 'Paul-H', that their existing 'announced list' was ...

Re: Plausible WR Passenger Operations?

I've also unearthed a couple of Hornby Gresley sleeping cars and a brake third, and a TPO in LMS livery. Now I need believable excuses for running these! Anyone know how common it was for inter-regional stock to be 'borrowed' for other workings before returning home? I guess there would be a bit mo...

The 7 planks are RCH 1923 spec, hence the independent or 'either side' brake. Not sure about the NBR Jubilee pattern

I thought the old Mainline Period 1 stock was quite good?

Re: Taking apart a Mainline wagon??

IIRC the body is held on solely by those four pips that are just inboard of the recesses for the wheels. You need to push on them with a screwdriver of similar (I think they spring inwards) until the body frees itself. No great problem if they break, it can be glued back on

Now, there was also an LNWR Precedent 2-4-0 shown among their illustrations of train formations. Wait and see.
Indeed, it would be without precedent.

Always railway owned, to the very best of my knowledge (the Wrenn model is in any case based on a BR design c.1958)

Re: Hattons Announces 4 and 6 wheel coaches

I've had experience of six wheelers that run OK, with and without being Cleminson. And I really wouldn't judge all RTR 6 wheelers by the standards of the unfortunate Hornby magazine example - which, I should point out, was made by Dapol, not the mag; do you need to guess who was involved in its des...

Re: Hattons Announces 4 and 6 wheel coaches

I notice that the blurb says six wheelers will have a sliding centre axle Oh god no, this didn't work on the Stove made by Hornby Magazine! All these "things" do is derail all the time. ... The only way a six wheel chassis can be done is with a Cleminson type underframe. I've had experien...

Re: Hattons Announces 4 and 6 wheel coaches

I notice that the blurb says six wheelers will have a sliding centre axle to accommodate tighter curves and it will be easily removable. So they are obviously thinking about the possible problems. As Bigmet says, six wheelers are not easy to make to run right. If they can achieve that, they might s...

Re: Vandal Update

Killing someone or drug peddling still causes much more "hang em high" reactions than this sort of crime. In the wider population, sure, and that's entirely expected. But not within the cocooned environments of model railway forums and Facebook groups, where (for some it appears) the hobb...

I think you may have missed my point here. I am not implying that any poster on here values property over life. I am commenting more generally about societal attitudes towards notorious events like the trashing of the show, and particularly how the populist end of the tabloid media - and particular...
