Have 'The Modeler' and 'Modelfair' shut shop for good?

As the post title says, both their websites dont appear to be operating anymore.

Re: would you consider this misleading

Not sure why you would pay £21 for something that is only £13 each new???

Re: Newbury Model Railway Club Show, 8th February 2014

Enjoyed the show today, had a great time helping to run the club layout.

Look forward to next year.

Re: Advice on buying a vice

You'd still have to hold it in the press, so the same problem as with a vice. But a little press is a very useful bit of kit to have, I often wish I had one. Pete Yes but the press is vertical so you can rest one piece on the base holding the other to locate it while you operate the press handle wi...

Re: Latest spec class 56 problem

Problem solved!!

I put a little bit of silicone rubber in the telescopic drive shafts to take out any slop in them, this improved things a little, so I then dismantled the bogies, completely degreased them and re lubricated them.

Now running very nice and smooth.

No, belt removed as with all the hornby models I own which have this feature.

Latest spec class 56 problem

I have a class 56 problem. I have one of the more recent models but it is a right rattler, I can only describe it as being like when you get a slightly worn bearing and it vibrates and squeals intermittently. Is the 56 model known for this problem? I have striped it down and run the motor on the ben...

Re: Advice on buying a vice

If it were me doing it I'd be using an Arbor press I second that, much better than a vice for pressing items together as you will not need to try and hold the items in place at the same time as operating the vice which often ends up in items being pressed together out of square or trapping your fin...

Re: Treason

Bachman and Heljan diesels are generally great out of the box sometimes needing a little tweaking to achieve perfect running. Hornby make some stunning diesels but they do sneak revised Lima and old Hornby models into the range which are now quite inferior. I do have a couple of the older Hornby die...

..., believe brush strokes add character to the model,... Good grief, I missed that one. Each to his own, but I wouldn't expect visible brush strokes on a job I was paying for. Duke of Gloucester thread... didn't see Jinty in the title  Best let the moderators make a judgment then, eh. Consid...

Re: Stalling & Shorting on Turnouts

A problem that I have had to overcome with stalling/shorting on Peco Insulfrog points is down to their attempt to minimise the length of the dead section. The clearance between the edge of the tyre tread on various loco wheels and the opposing V rail is critically small. If the back to back dimensi...

Re: Duke of Gloucester

Paints were thinned, I don't have an air brush and don't want one either, believe brush strokes add character to the model, plus it's not practical to use an Airbrush on just one model it's better for batches, especially with all the cleaning prep ect, but people seem to have seen enough of an impr...

Re: DCC on DC?? Computer Control on DC!

I suppose its ok for a train set but why bother when you can pick up a second hand hornby select for as little as £25 and actually have basic DCC control.

Re: Hornby 8 Pin DCC Decoder

I have a mixture of hattons, bachmann, lenz standard and gaugemaster. They all work with varying degrees of success in different locos. The ones I have least success with are hattons and gaugemaster. On some locos they have a strange power surge when slowing down at about 70% throttle and then slow...
