Re: Brothers, please forgive me for I have sinned by speculating.

My own golden rules for this hobby are Buy second hand  Buy for yourself 8) The hobby is way to expensive as it is so why try and screw fellow modellers by speculating. Try and do as many things yourself by scratch building  Don't spend any more than you have to. :o All the Be...

Re: Brothers, please forgive me for I have sinned by speculating.

Changing the topic slightly, is secondhand Peco track worth anything?

Brothers, please forgive me for I have sinned by speculating.

Hi everyone, I know that we all say that speculators ruin the hobby by holding items for basically ransom on Fleabay and who could ever do such a thing in good conscience. Well, I tried it. I was at a model train show and there was a table from an estate sale with a bunch of GWR Exley coaches (no bo...

Re: Building model railway books.

To be honest InFullSteam I've got loads of books for modelling and nothing comes close to the advice on this forum! Ask what you want. Be specific as much as you can and you'll get direct answers to your questions and perhaps alternative ideas too. :D Also a book won't give you the motivation that ...

If the train can couple up to itself, is it like a dog finding its own tail?

Re: Hello from across the pond!

Welcome on board. A GWR layout in the USA. Interesting! As for a tailchaser - as others have said, there is nothing wrong with that. I can run my Grandchildrens' (and mine) models as a tailchaser. It gets them 'involved' shall we say. :D Looking forward to see you get started. Glencairn Agreed, wel...

Building model railway books.

Hi guys, since I have time to prepare for my future layout, I think I should spend some of it reading on what to do/how to do it. What are good books on how to build a model railway start with the basics of designing the layout, ballasting, wiring, scenery, etc? For me, I like having something tangi...

How long do you spend at the NRM or Swindon STEAM museum?

Hi everyone,

I will be visiting in the near future and I will be going to the NRM. My question is how long do you usually spend when you go there?

Thank you in advance

Edit: I have also included the Steam Museum at Swindon.

HMRS Pressfix or Modelmaster Waterslide?

Hi everyone,

I am trying to decide what kind of transfers I am going to put on my goods van. Which transfers do you prefer, HMRS Pressfix or Modelmaster Waterslide and why?

Thank you in advance.

I found a video on making your own wagon load

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YzYDtKHNfMc

I was looking for how to make a wagon load on Youtube and I came across this video. I found it helpful and the method of making the wagon load simple. I shall try my hand at it in the future with the same method.

Re: What is the value in buying rolling stock kits?

The instructions for a great many model railway kits are like that, they assume the purchaser is 'in the club', has read the magazine 'how to' articles, has a library of reference information; and in the worst cases - particularly applicable to loco kits - has ready access to all sorts of supplies ...

Re: Shipping items on Ebay.

I'm in the US and right now, following the drop in value of the pound against the dollar due to the Brexit vote, it would not be good to try and sell anything from to UK. The exchange rate is not in UK favour. However, the other way round for me is great right now as the exchange rate has dropped c...

Shipping items on Ebay.

Hi,

I am planning to sell some miscellaneous items of my collection on ebay. Is it better to offer registered shipping with tracking even though the item may not be that valuable?

I live outside the UK and plan to sell to people in the UK.
