Re: Exeter St Davids OO
Easter update. Well I finally finished painting the track. I'll start again, I finally finished painting all the track in the station you can see from the viewing angle. I still need to finish off the other sides of some of the rails. Needing to feel like I'd made some sort of progress I turned my h...

Re: Exeter St Davids OO
I don't think I could have done anything as good if it were an imaginary layout. Based on reality not only looks a tad more convincing but the operation of the trains is great.

Re: Exeter St Davids OO
The 33 is a touch older being made 60-62 and the 50s 67-68 (credit to wikipedia!) I've still got Indomitable and Glorious (both in NSE livery) in their boxes on the shelf. They were bought in 2017/8 and never been run. Not even been out of the plastic inserts! Daft thing is I have DCC sound chips fo...

Re: Exeter St Davids OO
Well progress has been slow but I have been in the shed working. I've spent a lot of time painting the track in the station area (still not finished) and tinkering. I threw a bit of grey paint around the crossing last night to dull down the white plaster. It's all coming on......slowly! I've also be...

Re: Exeter St Davids OO
Thanks. If I don't get a move on by the time it would be at a stage for a magazine I think they will be a thing of the past! Hope I'm wrong of course.

Re: Exeter St Davids OO
What warning?? :) It's nice to get some feedback from time to time although I appreciate it's painfully slow to anyone watching in real time so to speak; 10 years now did you say?? I promise it will start to take shape much quicker now. I still think I'm going to mock up in 3mm foam board and card b...

Re: Exeter St Davids OO
Not quite finished the platforms but thought I'd get a couple of pictures in as it is now. I need to print off some more platform edging then go back to plasticard on the platform wall. Bit of a learning curve, but I found it easier to put the edging on then do the plasticard detail; it will make se...

Re: Exeter St Davids OO
Ha ha thanks for reminding me Geoff. I did say at the start this would be a long build. TBH it is the length of time and lack of progress which has made me go down the scalescenes route of late. Swings and roundabouts I guess, but I'm thinking better to get something done and on the layout then in d...

Re: Exeter St Davids OO
Well, even with the scalescenes paper this is still a long job! This weekend I've managed to get the retaining wall in on Cowley Bridge road (wrapped and glued in). After my efforts with the platform (earlier) I thought I'd see what scalescenes had in the way of platform finishes, and for a few quid...

Re: How to prevent building in warps in BB frames?!
Looks like you are sorted now, but all my boards are 4ft x 2ft (basically) and have 20x25mm frames and cross struts; imagine an number 8 in old school LCD. All the boards are then fixed together. I've had no issues with warping and my layout (10m x 2.4m) is in a shed in the UK for the last 4 years.

Re: Exeter St Davids OO
Well, despite having a couple of weeks off over Xmas I didn't really get anything done on the layout. As me and the Mrs didn't visit family over Xmas so we could have one on our own, I didn't think it would be fair to disappear in to the shed and leave her in the house alone! Anyway, been doing some...

Re: Exeter St Davids OO
I've not had much time on the layout in the last week, but here's the crossing so far. Added a bit of paint yesterday just so it looks better and easier to see where needs work more than when it's plain white.

Re: Exeter St Davids OO
Thanks Geoff. Will have to see, but I've been running trains through the up and down mainlines (platforms 4 & 5) already with no trouble. My main concern is track cleaning later on and not damaging the paint finish. I've left the crossing alone today and giving it time to set properly. With Red ...

Re: Exeter St Davids OO
Well the good news is the airbrush works and the bad news is I didn't didn't take the E Bay photo today; maybe tomorrow! I did do a bit more on the crossing and the platforms, but I only took some quick pictures of the crossing. Should be good to look back at the progress of it from start to finish....
