Re: Goods yard and dock as yet without a name.

Thanks guys, I am aiming to enjoy it as that is far more important that technical accuracy in my mind. It really will keep me busy for years! The aim with the channel is to fit some sort of lock gates to the dock area and probably use a sheet Plastic as you suggested Geoff, but I will model the chan...

Re: Goods yard and dock as yet without a name.

It's hard to believe that my last post was November! EEK! I have been struggling to upload photos from my phone to Picasa but have solved that by downloading a new app. There hasn't been much progress with the layout as a whole but I have covered the river bed in plaster bandage to give it some shap...

Re: Goods yard and dock as yet without a name.

I can reach right to the back, it is a bit of a stretch for modelling which is why I am going to start there first, but certainly reachable for getting de-railments and cleaning. The track underlay is just 3mm thick cork floor tiles, I bought them ages ago from Wickes, they are sticky backed but it ...

Goods yard and dock as yet without a name.

After a very long time (18 months or so)I am finally back working on a railway again, My last dioramas ( http://www.newrailwaymodellers.co.uk/Forums/viewtopic.php?f=22&t=35373 ) were all very well but I have been wanting something bigger for a long time. Now I have finally moved into my first ho...

Re: Surface mount LED

A similar effect but with RGB LED's so there are three different resistors soldered in line with the wires leading to the LED's: I have used surface mount resistors when space was a premium but in this instance I took the easy option. lol. https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-a2L81dFG0vA/UoPv-rA1SKI/A...

Re: LED rolls for layout lighting

Hi George, I have seen them used a lot, ideal for use in the automotive sector as they are 12V, I have had them used as accent lighting in the house as well as the car. Useful as they are RGB therefore can be tuned to any colour required. Or just the solid white ones. The left over bits I have used ...

Re: First Avenue - Modern OO Freightliner - 8ft x 2ft

I have been following for a while, and am pleased to see it is taking shape nicely, I do especially like the soil and grass section between the tracks with the fence posts in. Kev, I had a go with filler but without diluting it after i had first cut sheet wax to size and lined the inside edges of th...

Re: Automated railway and gate.

I hadn't thought of that problem john, it's not one I've comeacross so early in the modelling... I'll bear it in mind though and have ago at an illuminated backscene one day... I only had an hour last night so just let the local thugs steal a car and torch it on the wasteland... https://lh6.googleus...

Re: Automated railway and gate.

It has been a long time since coming online. I have at last done some more modelling in the last week, after university and work took over my life for the last few of months, at last I have some photos to show progress. Still not really started much in the way of main layout (that will come in a new...

Re: Wiring advice for dpdt relay pcb

Dan
The one in the photo is the 24volt version, the company does a 12 volt variant but it seems to only have 8 screw terminals, is there a part number on the board anyhere?

Cheers

Re: Wiring advice for dpdt relay pcb

Dan Is your board exactly the same as the Altronix RBSNTTL one in the photo? If so you can choose to use the the trigger + OR the trigger - When you send power to the plus or ground to the minus it will cause the relay to switch,. The other two are for power... In the case of the one on the photo pl...

Re: Automated railway and gate.

I have been very busy recently and this layout has taken a backseat, I have however now started building up the level of the yard with filler so the top of the rails sit level with the yard. https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-WJPxdAX8Q_k/Tw8ZdBsiSiI/AAAAAAAAAFk/r4yqN74mDlI/s640/IMAG0117.jpg I did sp...

Re: Anyone really good at electronics?

If you were to use a latching relay connected in parallel with the point motor, it would mean when the point motor was switched one way it would turn the relay on and when switched the other it would switch off again, If you fit one relay for each route you can use the switching of the points to tur...

Re: Anyone really good at electronics?

How are you switching your points?
Are you using point motors?
Have you laid the track yet?

If you are using seep point motors I would purchase the ones with built in switches which could be used to illuminate LED's or switch power etc.

Cheers

Re: How to make a simple light and sound circuit

How about the record your own Birthday Cards? Maybe one could be wired up with a small timer delay circuit to make it play when a button is pressed. I cant find the talking megablock on the internet so cannot check price but a recordable card would only be £3-4 as I remember. Or you can pick up a ch...
