Re: Would you complain?

Trouble with something like this is if its faulty or well used, then unless you have the receipt/guarantee or are an electrical/computer expert then if it goes wrong you might as well have bought a "used" one. You've literally gained nothing from buying the pseudo "new" one. Add ...

Re: Aged Airfix 14xx motor runs fine but no drive. Salvagable?

The only repair I've ever failed at was a 14xx. I did manage to fix it but dropped the thing and wrote it off. Anyway this may help with the general dismantling and re-assembling of it.

Re: Making your own X03/XO4 carbon brushes

Doing various queries on Chrome with "shopping" sites excluded gets plenty of hits mainly for making bullet type brushes for use in ringfield and the like. One source that comes up repeatedly (other than cutting from worn out drill and washing machine types) is the big fat carpenters penc...

Re: Making your own X03/XO4 carbon brushes

... Certainly there seems no difference in performance between copper graphite brushes and non copper ones apart from the obvious soldering advantages... Distant memory here, there is a claim of advantage in the better isotropic conductivity of metal loaded graphite (copper and silver), conductivit...

Re: Inappropriate. Ads in the banners

Sadly I get no scantily clad women  although I marvel at how far these targeted ads are off target. I went through a period of sheds and Chinese remedies, now i'm onto play lead guitar in an hour and Network rail approved railway equipment. UPDATE: Just been offered a shipping container and a c...

Re: Making your own X03/XO4 carbon brushes

Interesting points Bigmet and i think it comes down to how specialised to the product is the copper graphite in brushes made by the model manufacturers as opposed to other similar motors or is there/was a degree of kidology so they can charge extra like dedicated railway lubrication oil compared wit...

Re: Making your own X03/XO4 carbon brushes

ah thanks Bigmet. I will do a search on copper graphite. As I mentioned I think I've solved the problem of soldering non-copper graphite carbon as my test pair have been used for 3 months now with no problems so no need to solder them, fingers crossed. It was more a general query whether something l...

Making your own X03/XO4 carbon brushes

As the price of these have been steadily rising to the point when a new pair costs £5+ and any sort of collection of used ones sparks a buying frenzy on ebay, I've been experimenting with making my own over the last few years. Now as I understand it ,the original brushes have some sort of copper inf...

Re: 'Tha Package' aka 'The Bundle', 'The Mix'....

I've been wondering what's bespoke about this new Hornby Apt. Super detailed with a range of Liveries? Well its a one-off streamlined lump. Have they produced scale speed by putting the Smokey Joe motor in it? Metal bodied? gold plated? A scale model of Jimmy Saville announcing that This is the Age ...

Re: Worst Model Loco Motorised Chassis Design.

Links below maybe of interest? http://www.tri-angrailways.org.uk/lionel.html https://tri-ang.weebly.com/1972-special-set-1928---louis-marx.html Ha, I totally missed that lionel link when I searched that site. Obviously some connection there then. The 2nd link I'd seen and my coach is different beca...

Re: Worst Model Loco Motorised Chassis Design.

I thought Triang used American tooling to produce the original transcontinental models, the US designs at 3.5,mm scale being approximately the same height as UK stock to 4mm scale. Marx tooling adopted by Triang could be a possibility. The trouble with that is I can't find any other Marx coaches si...

Re: Worst Model Loco Motorised Chassis Design.

... it seems Triang-Hornby were doing a bit of moonlighting for Marx. There was a connection of some standing between Lines Bros = 'Triang', and American manufacturers. This is clearest in the operating gimmickry of giraffe cars, log dumpers, mailcoaches, and of course the well known 'Battlesplat' ...

Is Kleinbahn made in Austria. Is a H0 locomotive.
Honestly had never heard of the brand before. Seem to do quite a lot of nice models. Always tempted to bid on some of this European HO stuff on ebay just out of curiosity.

Re: Rare Or Unusual Model Locos.

I have filed down the ringfield gears before. Unfortunately as you can see this hybrid thing has gears held on by brass centres and I don't think they come off as easily as the Hornby types - never tried to prise them off tbh but I presume they do. The magnet thing, I have a few ideas. I use Neo mag...
