Re: Gateside and Northbridge - Maybe Sometime!
Quick status update! We have had an offer for a flat back in Eaglesham accepted and the cottage went live on the market this morning, so hopefully a buyer will be along soon and we can get this move over with. A condition of the move is that a second bedroom will officially be "the railway room...

Re: Railway signals
For any enquiries about signalling I always direct folk to here https://signalbox.org/ . Run by a professional signalman and full ove anything you want to know about theory and practise. There are drawings of actual locations, many in the Highlands that you could use as a basis for your layout. Jim

Re: Coach identification help please
I bought 3 and put them straight into the roster, some profiteers bought loads of them for £3 a pop and flogged them successfully on Ebay for a lot more.

Re: Super 4 insulated rail joiners
Triang produced a R497 SUPER 4 ISOLATING TRACK instead of selling insulating fishplates, this had the benefit of being switchable. There is one on Ebay currently complete with the switch https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/TRIANG-HORNBY-R-497-ISOLATING-TRACK-LEVER-SWITCH-IN-V-G-C-AND-WORKING-ORDER/2338607431...

Re: How to Spot the Loch Ness Monster
In these days when everyone has a reasonable quality camera in their phone, visibility of the Loch from the A82 has been improved due to tree felling during road realignment and (when COVID-19 restrictions are not in place) there are considerably more tourists in the area why are there not many more...

Re: Early Lima OO product mouldings becoming fragile?
What I have noticed about my old Lima Mark 1a is that the bodies are discolouring, changing from black to a greyish colour. Nothing that some Matt black wont sort though. Jim The greying effect is normally caused by exposure to sunlight. I bought a Lima bogie tanker which had sat in the shop window...

Re: carbon Black
Not only is it produced by burning fossil fuels, but to maximise output it has to be air starved combustion! Even the production was a filthy process. Don't think "well it's a good job the place has been pulled down" it just means that it's now being produced somewhere in the world where ...

Re: carbon Black
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carbon_black tells you about the stuff, note the paragraphs regarding health. It is not a by product and it is manufactured to closely monitored specifications, as any deviation to particle sizes can seriously affect the compounding and processing of the rubber. Jim

Re: 2021 Range
So the "Unlikely to be ever produced again" Clan is back, typical that it appears when I have no layout to run one on! I never bought this idea that the tooling had been destroyed and could never be recreated when it must have been obvious that the CAD files to make the tooling remained in...

Re: Gateside and Northbridge - Maybe Sometime!
Hi Jim, Have always enjoyed browsing your layout, and wish you all the best for when you do eventually move. Maybe this will be an opportunity to find a property, where you won't have to climb into the loft :0) Indeed - I was slightly concerned that getting in and out the loft would become difficul...
