Re: Not enough horses (or women)?

Great find Kentishman, this site http://www.crht1837.org/history/horsesstables would suggest that it is not Euston, but not far away at Camden Goods Depot, looks to have been an extensive system of tunnels - hence the nickname "The Camden Catacombs"

Re: Labeling Idea. (Important!)

A reasonable suggestion, but I would doubt that the manufacturing companies would agree on a common configuration. Is it really necessary - again I doubt that there is a great need for this, every new release is reviewed and dissected to death in the magazines and forums, anyone wanting info does no...

Re: Goods shed operation

Quite a few depots would have had a winch installed at the bufferstops so that wagons could be moved without a loco being present, and don't forget that in the age of steam, there would always be at least a couple of Clydesdale or Shire horses around the depot that could pull the wagons around.

Re: Millsend Layout - OO Gauge Sixties Midland

HI Jim - Glad the task of cutting the inspection pits is done for me, if you excuse the pun - that job is the pits :D . Best of luck with this latest project. Just now the site reminds me of those photos from 1968, with deserted loco depots waiting for the track to be ripped up.

Nice weathering Jim, takes the gloss off the original.

Re: Gateside and Northbridge

Thanks everyone, but first some sports news just in..and in the observation stakes it is Ex-Pat 1 - Timbersurf 0!! :D The ladder is indeed front right, with a hatchway above, I will do a hatch cover as a finishing touch. I take your point about the axles though Timbersurf - will remove the points Tr...

Re: Gateside and Northbridge

Nearly there! Added some further detail to the water tank by adding a platform/walkway so that the ladder access now comes up the side of the building and through a hatch, the another ladder from the platform to the top of the tank. Platform base is chequerplate plasticard with some reinforcement an...

Re: Millsend Layout - OO Gauge Sixties Midland

Looks like a decent coach Jim, I built an Ian Kirk LNER buffet car a few years ago but it didn't turn out well and I sold it, I have a Gresley Twin Art set at occasionally sees some use. Unfortunately painting is not my strong point, I rarely get the finish right, it is usually too glossy for my lik...

Re: Hattons P and Barclay, two small locos

One aspect of the model retail market that confounds me is the ability of the Warhammer/Games Workshop chain to maintain outlets in high rent areas of town and city Centres, locally they have shops in Union Street in Glasgow and in East Kilbride town centre. I had a look on-line to see how it is pos...

Real Life Use of Polystyrene Blocks for Scenery!

https://www.theforthbridges.org/news/disused-tunnel-at-forth-road-bridge-made-safe/

Unlike modellers who usually use expanded polystyrene (EPS) blocks to create scenery around their tunnels :-)

Re: Gateside and Northbridge

Hi all - looking for a bit of advice on the water column. The one I am using for the depot is the Peco offering (cheap and cheerful), but I have lost the plastic tube that is the "bag", I don't think that this is a great loss as it is too rigid to look like the leather trunking that is us...

I've got loads of full green rizla packets if you need them. They are too thick to smoke for me. Thanks End2(cough cough splutter)end Ha! Ha! thanks for the offer End to End - I have a source closer to home, I could also get some funny smelly tobacco to put in it if I wanted :D :D Not I hasten to a...

Re: Gateside and Northbridge

Thanks JIm, I'll reply to your email through the Forum. What was "ordinary file paper" in 1979? - I haven't a clue! Thinking further about it, would cigarette papers do the job I wonder - they're certainly thin, and from "roll-ups" that I've seen they could certainly give that w...

Re: Gateside and Northbridge

Looks like your CRT monitor is happy enough in the loft Jim. Mine gives me all sorts of different colour mixes - the humidity I think, waiting for it to give up !! Keep working away - you must be running out of space now. Geoff T. Hi Geoff - That old monitor and the PC that went with it bit the dus...
