Re: Using Contiboard For A Baseboard?

MDF is like chipboard, OK when completely dry. 18mm MDF is quite heavy though, I would go for 12mm chipboard (cheap) or Ply (generally thought to be the best).

Re: Looking at electronic componants

Even Radioshack is not completely dead, the name was bought by https://www.hobbytown.com/ and they still trade components.

Re: Using Contiboard For A Baseboard?

I have used it - Mavisbank is built on top of an old Contiboard shelf, see here https://www.newrailwaymodellers.co.uk/Forums/viewtopic.php?f=22&t=33932&start=90#p545863 . it is as good as chipboard but I would not go out and buy one as it is dearer than ply, I just happened to have this lyin...

Re: Some general semaphore signal questions

I have an N-gauge layout, loosely based on GWR, which I now want to add semaphore signals to. At a couple of locations I have twin lines, fast and slow, merging into a single line. Would the fast and slow lines each have a single post, one in the six-foot between the lines, the other in the cess; o...

Re: Southern malachite coach livery

Did the railway liveries not get RAL numbers? AFAIK the system of recording all commercial colours by RAL number started in the 1930s so I would imagine that they would have received a coding.

You could keep an eye on the likes of Gumtree, model stuff comes up there on occasion, but you have to be quick. Facebook also has a but and sell feature where model stuff is featured.

Re: The story of PETERSDALE my OO gauge Branch Line layout

There were also rules after past disasters where one wasn't allowed to run a mixed train where any petrochemical or chemical tankers were in the formation. Explain this then - this photo was taken in 1984, and the practice stopped only with the introduction of the class 156s in 1989 https://goo.gl/...

Re: New Beginnings

Hi Artisan - A lot of people look down on 12mm chipboard as a baseboard but providing the area that your layout is set up is dry and you support it with a decent frame (and you are not intending to move it about) it is a good surface to use and it is much cheaper than ply, I have used it in the loft...

Re: Edgware GN,

Think I will need to put some commissions your way - lets start with a J35, then maybe a J37 and a D34 "Glen" :D

Re: Gateside and Northbridge (Incorporating the Allanshaw Inglenook)

Hi everyone - I felt that I did a lot tonight but don't have a great deal to show for it!! Spray painted the crane structure, stuck down some Scalescenes dirty concrete paper on the crane base and the loading ramp and holding to my promise to myself to try plasticard brick instead of brick paper to ...

Re: Problem with power outage on dc facing points

Hi - When using electrofrog points on a continuous run you still need to have IRJs on the main loop on at least the side the frog is on or (preferably) both rails as when the point is switched you get an effective short through the frog. Have a read here http://www.brian-lambert.co.uk/Electrical.htm...

Re: Gateside and Northbridge (Incorporating the Allanshaw Inglenook)

Well done. In fact you're building a new layout, isn't it ? Well - Yes and No! :D The shunting plank does have a location on the main layout and will be blended into the scenery above Northbridge and the Fiddle Yard, but the future plan is to create a base structure into which the plank and the bri...
