Re: Any new skills you have learned?

Thanks Pete. They're not cheap are they! :D They look excellent. Though I do tend to use my lathe with files rather then a specific tool, (This is because turning resin doesn't go well with the lathe tool as dwarf jams and creates big gouges in the resin) OMG! - does Snow White know what you are up...

Re: Hornby 2018 Range

I have a standing agreement with Mrs Luckymucklebackit - as far as presents are concerned, Xmas is not on the 25 December, in 2019 it is on the 22nd February :D

Re: Hornby 2018 Range

Just had an email from Hattons telling me that the J36 is delayed until December 2018, that's another two month slip, starting to wonder if it will be launched at Model Rail Scotland in February.

Re: Preowned windfalls

I have just had a Major windfall. My Nephew is the manager at a local care home which had a model railway display in the foyer, he told me that the company who run the home want rid of it and was I interested, of course I said yes. So for £100 I have purchased an 8ft by 4ft layout (with some track d...

Re: Trying New Things.

Avoid all the causes of failure that others have discovered already, by some diligent investigation into the subject before commencing on a new thing. Y ou can also waste your life researching and never doing, or avoiding doing because you perceive insurmountable barriers that others have met. I th...

Re: Greater Loftchester

Have you set up an account on that site? Thankfully it is free to do this and it allows you to zoom in on the photographs, I used it for views of the bridge I have recently built a model based on which is in the east end of Glasgow.

It is an excellent resource.

Re: 00 Points choice..?

I've mixed them often and use the point that fits best. I've even slightly bent longer points to get them to meet my required location. Not a good idea and certainly not good advice for a beginner, believe me I am speaking from painful experience, albeit many years ago, it dos not work well, you en...

Re: 00 Points choice..?

I made this point (scuse pun) on another thread but it is worth repeating it here, avoid mixing set-track and streamline points in the same formation, all set-track points and crossings are at a turnout angle of 22.5 degrees, streamline points and large crossings are at a turnout angle of 12 degrees...

...and meanwhile in Scotland, on the 11th of August, 44871 quietly marked the 50th Anniversary with a run from Fort William to Boness, complete with 1T51 home made headboard, some photos below (not mine), before setting off on a trip round Fife and off up to Tweedbank (over the line closed by the sa...

Re: Gateside and Northbridge

Hi All - managed to complete tracklaying and assembling the point mechanisms last night, the track took a bit of fiddling as the normal configuration didn't quite fit. I had to trim a couple of sleeper lengths off the "Y" point to make it fit, still the prototype of yard I am modelling nev...

Re: MOD Kineton and its Railway History

From what i have read there was no fissionable material stored routinely at Kineton. The bunkers however did store nuclear tipped tank shells at one time. There was an on-line Ministry of Defence document that made reference to: "Kineton Station Standing Operating Procedure No73, Contingency Pl...

Re: Tri-ang R242 55t Trestrol waggon

What size wheels did yo use? I have two of these but they sit in a siding as they have the original wheels and won't take the points.
