Re: Hawick via Grantham, Inverness and SIAM (00 gauge DC)

Hi Ex Pat - I was wondering what had happened to your structure!! Sorry to hear about the warping, nothing worse than when a building doesn't go to plan like that, good to see that you have overcome the problems, looking forward to seeing progress now. But blaming the World Cup :D Just like the Scot...

Well if that is your first attempt then I cant wait to see what you will produce once you are experienced! Very high standard of kit building and finishing.

Re: Gateside and Northbridge (Incorporating the Allanshaw Inglenook)

Going forward fro the bridge build (getting ahead of myself a bit here as the bridge has a bit of work yet to do), the area under the bridge will be a (rather narrow) diorama depicting what used to be under the prototype at Parkhead Forge on which the Allenshaw bridge was based. This map shows that ...

Re: Llwyndrissi Halt.

One technique to avoid is setting up a job In the chuck and trying to finish it with emery paper, I did that as an apprentice and it resulted in my thumbnail being pulled clean out when the emery paper snagged on the job - painful :o

Re: Gateside and Northbridge (Incorporating the Allanshaw Inglenook)

The stonework supporting the bridge looks spot on Jim. Visually 3d using plastic. A wipe with decorators caulk using fingers solves the gap problem for me and it's dry overnight. Each to their own though. Jim. Thanks Jim - Having seen your cracking buildings that sounds like another good alternativ...

Re: Class 40 Conversion - Lima/Hornby Railroad

Thanks Bigmet - on closer inspection the motor bogie is out of stock anyway :( , I will keep my eye on the second hand market for Railroad models or the older Bachmann models!

Class 40 Conversion - Lima/Hornby Railroad

Hi all - looking for advice before spending some money here. I have two Lima Class 40s that are both poor runners due to age and the general known shortcomings of Lima locomotives. Plan "A was buy two new Bachmann 40s - far too expensive!! I considered fitting Ultrascale wheels as a plan "...

Re: arboretum valley

0413 i used to paint my scenic area green if i was going to 'grass' Same here, but when I started using strips of brown postal bags soaked with dilute PVA, I figured if any grass rubbed off I wanted it to show through brown. It's what happens in real life after all. Agreed - brown (soil) for flat s...

Re: Gateside and Northbridge (Incorporating the Allanshaw Inglenook)

Thanks everyone, the only issue I am finding is making sure I get a good outside edge, the second photograph shows what I mean as there is a distinct seam running down from the top of the pillar. I am going to experiment with some stiff Polyfilla before painting to try and avoid obvious gaps. Cheer...

Re: Track plan Help

There is a table here http://www.newrailwaymodellers.co.uk/track-conversion.htm which gives the equivalent Peco vs Hornby part numbers. Here is an explanation of the geometry of the track used. https://www.hornby.com/media/pdf/Track-Geometry-PDF.pdf Good luck with your project Jim
