Re: Gateside and Northbridge (Incorporating the Allanshaw Inglenook)

Some inspiration I found tonight online, this is Fullwood Foundry, which I used to walk past on my way to work

Re: More eBay nonsense...........

I had a look and even this one https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/DAPOL-LTD-ED-GUNPOWDER-VAN-GWR/273473767737?hash=item3fac4e8939:g:mMYAAOSwh2RZ8Gvn:rk:54:pf:0 I bought one of these from Gaugemaster (the most expensive model shop I visit) and although on offer it was only £6 and LIMITED EDITION! £43. Re: Gateside and Northbridge (Incorporating the Allanshaw Inglenook)

Thanks Glencairn. Not much done over the past week, having been away from the layout "enjoying" (or should I say surviving) a weekend at Blackpool I am back home and recovering! I made a start at the low relief foundry building, by applying the "corrugated metal" cladding using p...

Re: DIESEL CLASS 20 HEADLIGHT CODES

Here is a photo of a loco correctly showing the indication http://www.rail-online.co.uk/img/s/v-3/p518104153-4.jpg If I remember correctly, all the lights remained lit, when the upper half of the disc was folded down it obscured the lamp and ensured that the correct code was displayed Jim

Re: Using Contiboard For A Baseboard?

MDF is like chipboard, OK when completely dry. 18mm MDF is quite heavy though, I would go for 12mm chipboard (cheap) or Ply (generally thought to be the best).

Even Radioshack is not completely dead, the name was bought by https://www.hobbytown.com/ and they still trade components.

Re: Using Contiboard For A Baseboard?

I have used it - Mavisbank is built on top of an old Contiboard shelf, see here https://www.newrailwaymodellers.co.uk/Forums/viewtopic.php?f=22&t=33932&start=90#p545863 . it is as good as chipboard but I would not go out and buy one as it is dearer than ply, I just happened to have this lyin...

Re: Some general semaphore signal questions

I have an N-gauge layout, loosely based on GWR, which I now want to add semaphore signals to. At a couple of locations I have twin lines, fast and slow, merging into a single line. Would the fast and slow lines each have a single post, one in the six-foot between the lines, the other in the cess; o...

Re: Southern malachite coach livery

Did the railway liveries not get RAL numbers? AFAIK the system of recording all commercial colours by RAL number started in the 1930s so I would imagine that they would have received a coding.

You could keep an eye on the likes of Gumtree, model stuff comes up there on occasion, but you have to be quick. Facebook also has a but and sell feature where model stuff is featured.

Re: The story of PETERSDALE my OO gauge Branch Line layout

There were also rules after past disasters where one wasn't allowed to run a mixed train where any petrochemical or chemical tankers were in the formation. Explain this then - this photo was taken in 1984, and the practice stopped only with the introduction of the class 156s in 1989 https://goo.gl/...

Re: New Beginnings

Hi Artisan - A lot of people look down on 12mm chipboard as a baseboard but providing the area that your layout is set up is dry and you support it with a decent frame (and you are not intending to move it about) it is a good surface to use and it is much cheaper than ply, I have used it in the loft...
