Re: The Great Model Railway Challenge

The novices raised a giggle for me at the start, some of the bottles of chemicals they were shown using in their day job are those made by the company I work for, I use the reject bottles for paint, glue etc!! :D

Re: Signal box redundant levers

Painted white and left in the frame. For the scenario that you are modelling, you should really have a brick relay room attached to the side of the old box.

Re: Gateside and Northbridge - Mk4 not really feasable:-(

The 8ft x 6ft shed is not a bad space for a layout, the last operational layout I built before G&N was "Carmuirs" a terminus-fiddleyard with continuous run in a room that was about 6'2" x 8'6", and that had a lot of operational interest and looking back I think I could have i...

Re: Gateside and Northbridge - Mk 4 not really feasable

After careful consideration, I have put all development work on complete hold. The issue is not how to build the layout in the loft, it is getting in and out of the blooming thing! While up taking some measurements at the weekend, I had a close call getting out of the loft and nearly sustained a nas...

Re: operating Ratio Semaphores

I think that it is perfectly feasable to motorise basic Ratio signals, you just need to ensure that the pivot holes are drilled out to allow the arm and couterweight to move freely. The problem will come if you attempt to motorise any bracket signals, as I have found the rocker arrangement is too fl...

Re: Millsend Layout - OO Gauge Sixties Midland

OMG Ex Pat is right, it is the mid sixties all over again, curious that both of us were modelling that period too! So sorry to see Millsend go, it is such an atmospheric layout, I hope that you can find something to fill the void that will be left. Have to admit that I have done the square root of n...

Consider yourself lucky, if this had been RMweb instead of NRMF they would have been round to your house last night with the pointy hats and ole' fiery cross :D

Punishment to fit the crime? Compulsory supervised attendance at a local model railway club and make them build a layout, let them see how much time and work is needed to create something to exhibition standard.

Re: Wheel cleaning

Got one, only use it if there is a bad build up of muck. Drawback is that is is next to useless to clean non-driving pickup wheels.

Re: Gaps in track

In fairness, the only photographs I have seen of this method are on partially completed layouts, i.e track laid and being tested, no scenic work done yet. Some folk prefer to do it this way then insert one or more sleepers (with the chairs sliced flush with the sleeper top) under the rails immediate...

Re: Gateside and Northbridge - a Concept I can not let Die!!!!

G'Day Gents Nice sized loft, but how high ?? manna Ah! there is the rub, the answer is - not very, approximately 4ft high, but I am used to scrambling about on my hands and knees in the old loft (thankfully without recourse to the Lotus position Timbersurf :D ) so I am not considering that as a sho...

Re: Gateside and Northbridge - a Concept I can not let Die!!!!

In the beginning the loft was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the rafters... Yet something is stirring!!!! IMG_20190705_185205.jpg Started to populate the loft with various boxes of materials etc. and get some flooring down, massive amount of work to do but Allenshaw was mo...

Re: Gateside and Northbridge - a Concept I can not let Die!!!!

Thanks everyone for the messages of support :) The garden is very small so putting in a hut of a suitable size is not possible, it needs to be the loft or not at all! Been playing about with a few doodles on paper and what seems the most obvious plan is to go back to basics with the Mk1 Gateside and...

Re: Edgware GN,

G'Day Gents Two updates in a week, he's either mad, busy or bored, probably the first  . No the R1 has had a poor coat of paint, just because I wanted to see what it looked like !! Being a bit cold in Oz, barely made it to 10c today, I stayed in and had a go at the P1, it is now balanced/bluet...
