Re: Currently without a name - my 6x4
I know this is a very old post but do you have any photos of your layout showing the wheels/castors. I’d like to do similar with the same size layout but would be concerned about the weight, movability etc. I only want to fit 4 corner legs though so if you or anyone else can share their experience ...

Re: My Rarely-Looked-At-Let-Alone-Worked-On Workbench
Just because I haven't posted anything for a while doesn't mean I haven't done anything lately. It might be true, but it's no reason to assume it. Most of my time lately has revolved around the full-size scale models at the museum I volunteer at. At some point I'll have to look for a couple of SD9 c...

Re: My Rarely-Looked-At-Let-Alone-Worked-On Workbench
Cumulative update: Sprinter 7019 is ready for lining. Still to do are find suitable horns, a motor bogie (within my budget of $10), and an interior. Three more kits have been ordered, for a total of 6 sprinters. This allows for one of each livery, with two spare. https://c1.staticflickr.com/5/4222/3...

Re: My Rarely-Looked-At-Let-Alone-Worked-On Workbench
Today's efforts: T411 is almost done, the three sections (short hood, long hood and cab) have been assembled (but not joined) and sanded nicely. T399 needs to be unglued and restarted, since I managed to get the short end sides back to front and the long end back to front and upside down. Assembly t...

Re: My Rarely-Looked-At-Let-Alone-Worked-On Workbench
In the last few trips home, I have purchased and mostly assembled a Diesel Rail Car from a Hanovale kit. Not a bad kit, just needs proper glazing and a couple of minor details. https://c8.staticflickr.com/1/496/31126515783_7d931c3087_c.jpg The Z guards van is mostly assembled, it just needs minor pa...

Re: Something a bit different: Victorian Railways of Australia
Photos of my trip to Mornington Railway are now up. There's still a few things to upload, like my second trip to the Victorian Goldfields Railway, and the unique parallel steam loco run to Geelong. I've set up a Flickr feed for my iPhone shots, which is at the moment being updated fairly often, and ...

Re: Something a bit different: Victorian Railways of Austral
Finally clearing the backlog a bit. Photos of 2016 Ballarat heritage weekend and the Steamrail Member's train to Seymour on the 30th of July are now available. The Member's train was a 6 carriage load test for A2 986, it's first passenger service. This was also the first time an A2 has been seen on ...

Re: My Rarely-Looked-At-Let-Alone-Worked-On Workbench
A very productive weekend, the first (and possibly last) in a long time. With recent events I haven't had access to my trains, let alone anywhere to work on them. - VHGY grain hopper wagon, Z guards van, and P explosives van kits assembled ready for painting - B louvre van decaled (took longer than ...

Looks good so far. Are the loco jacks bought or built?

Re: Something a bit different: Victorian Railways of Austral
I once again have a backlog of photos, but due to unfortunate circumstances it may be a while before they're up. I have the recent Ballarat Heirtage Weekend photos (Y112 and K190), some of K163 and T411 at Mornington, and new photos from the ARHS Victorian Museum. I am now a volunteer at the museum,...

Re: class T9 chassis rot
Further to my earlier comments about my LMS T9 being a great runner, it no longer is. a strange humming comes from it, when give a push it may take off and halt shortly after, or cause a grinding noise from the motor area. I've tried two decoders, thinking it may have been a CV. Alas, ''twas not. Th...

Re: My Rarely-Looked-At-Let-Alone-Worked-On Workbench
And in the post this morning came both the Adams Radial and GNR 1247. 1247: way older than I thought. Still uses an X04 motor. It runs... Kind of. Not sure about it's future. Adams: not convinced that the poor running isn't due to the wheels being painted silver. Either that or they've oxidised badl...

Re: Currently without a name - my 6x4
Since my last post: - New dual track siding off the turntable behind the station. - Bachmann C Class is now chipped, and runs superbly - Lima parcels Railcar is still analogue, but runs surprisingly well - New loco Bachmann A2 Bachelor's Button (on sale at my local shop) has been chipped and added t...

Re: My Rarely-Looked-At-Let-Alone-Worked-On Workbench
It's been a while. It turns out the railcar kit was, in fact, by K's, and came with a Mk1 motor bogie which will have the motor replaced. Since then, there have been many attempts at removing the enamel paint - none have so far been successful. The glue, on the other hand, was removed quite easily. ...

Re: Something a bit different: Victorian Railways of Austral
Thanks for posting that. You managed to get the good angles, before the upgrades start this year.
Puffing Billy is always a fun day out - which loco did you get? Haven't done the SA rail museum (side note: one of the locos there is actually a Victorian N Class) or the Ghan yet, hopefully one day (:
