Re: Help needed to mix styles

Why not plan your layout around diesel and electric and then run the steam as excursions. Then and again its your layout so does it matter what you run as long as you get enjoyment out of it. I run whatever I like whenever I like.

Re: Using reed switches for more than one purpose

I use reed switches to operate small self latching relays, which in turn control other electronic devices, eg Signals on one side of the relay and track power on the other so that the train stops and goes according to how the signal is set, Also a sound module, flashing red leds and boom gate for th...

Re: New Spare Room Layout

Hi
Does the engine have pickups on both bogies? One on one side and one on the other, if so you will need to fit extra pickups on the leading bogie.

Re: Changing old Triang wheels

How I Replace wheels on older Triang wagons. I used Evergreen 3/32 “ tube for this replacement as it contrasts better with the frame, 3/32 brass can be used and this will give brass bearings. Why 3/32 because it fits neatly into the bogie axle hole. Cut the strips longer than needed so that you have...

Lights on an 08

Looking online at various videos it would seem that 08s have two lights, a red and a white. The red light seems to stays on continuously and only the white light changes with the direction of the locomotive. As I want to update my 08 is this correct?

Re: Unnamed layout for my kids

Just be aware that the top plan does have a reversing loop in it. The long lead into the sidings and the double cross over connected to it form the loop.

Re: Voltage divider

Could you not use a 7805 voltage regulator and run it off 5 volts?

Re: Using 7805s in parallel

Why not use a by pass transistor to increase the current out of the 7805. There are a number of circuits on the web and basically all they need are a few resistors, couple of capacitors and a power transistor.

Re: Updating skills

Have just got myself an arduino uno board which I want to programme to operate servos that will control signals and points. There are a lot of 'sketches' available on the web so I don't think I have to reinvent the wheel - just modify one to suit. (servo speed and travel). Priced for a Uno board her...

Re: Lifelioke points derailing problem

Hi I have 4 lifelike points on my railway and found that to get good running through them I had to do two things 1 Make certain that they were flat down as they seemed to have a twist to them and 2 Ensue that the back to back wheel measurement was close to 14.5 mm These two items have solved my prob...

Re: G scale L&B loco repair

If you want to take it apart look for 4 screws under the cab and 1 screw under the chimney - this should be all but check.

Hi The loco is a Climax and is usually used in logging operations because of its ability to travel around tight curves. I think that it is an American design.

Maybe if you rewired it slightly so that the wheat lamps bypassed the resistors
