Re: Hornby 2020 Speculation Thread - 100 years of Hornby

I think Hornby has a problem with the Railroad range, for whatever reason they don't seem to be able to use the old diecast block chassis, which pushes up their minimum price. Does anyone know what old tooling still exists? Can't imagine theres much, didn't they sneakily destroy lots in Kohler's ab...

Re: Hornby 2020 Speculation Thread - 100 years of Hornby

I'm always looking at railroad range items that I want and that got me thinking, it'd be nice to see the old terrier in the range in a colourful livery or named lbsc livery (I know, highly unlikely), also the old B12 with chuff chuff tender (still trying to get a BR blue one to replace the one I had...

Re: Beaglington-On-Sea 00 gauge in 6ft by 4ft

And now here are some shots of the finished tunnel mouth area, well, as finished as it can be for now. I rather based my cliffs on the background of a 7mm layout I've always admired since I read it in 2006 in the first copy of BRM I'd ever bought called 'Fettleworth' (August 2006) and it was full of...

Re: Beaglington-On-Sea 00 gauge in 6ft by 4ft

Time for more progress, however it's likely to be the last update for now as I haven't made any more progress than what I will be showing here. AFter constructing the tunnel entrance area at one end and the main cliff I decided it would be best to do the first coating of newspaper and pva before att...

Re: Beaglington-On-Sea 00 gauge in 6ft by 4ft

Progress on the cliffs following on from the previous photo post... As you can see the height of the cliffs in comparison to the buildings is now obvious and I hope it looks some way realistic: 5.jpg 6.jpg 7.jpg 8.jpg And now to go get photos off of my phone (if I can) to show where I am at now. Ale...

Re: Beaglington-On-Sea 00 gauge in 6ft by 4ft

Sometimes I think that I should plan more rather than just setting off on a journey I suppose it depends what you find more fun/entertaining/interesting. I printed templates to see if I could squeeze 009 in but I can't, so I'll stick to the plan I've made for now, but considering replacing the kato...

Re: Hornby M7 tank R2840

Perhaps someone removed the weights in the tanks for some reason. When I had the LSWR 252 one I found it worked better with lighter trains but generally struggled to climb anything other than a gentle incline with anything, its driving wheels were very slippery on the rails sometimes.

Re: Beaglington-On-Sea 00 gauge in 6ft by 4ft

So, here is the start of the major structure on the layout, the cliff which will hide the rear of the oval and give the setting to the town in the middle of the layout. First of all I cut up some scraps of paper to help visualise how I would fit in the cliff. 1.jpg With this mapped out I worked out ...

Re: Beaglington-On-Sea 00 gauge in 6ft by 4ft

Also I have this now, a recent purchase, a superdetailed hornby pullman with matchboard sides (below window height) called Aurelia, with a white roof. It was dirt cheap as a lot of the detailed bits are broken or missing and so is one buffer. I don't really mind, I'd like some more to go with it as ...

Re: Beaglington-On-Sea 00 gauge in 6ft by 4ft

Just a quick post now about a little detailing I did, I found some unpainted hornby crew members and some unpainted 1/100 scale people Sid had bought me off of Wish or somewhere ages ago and decided to paint them and some cab interiors and get some of my locomotives crewed up as it were. I painted u...

Re: Beaglington-On-Sea 00 gauge in 6ft by 4ft

I forget the total population though. With that many pubs to keep profitable it's a wonder anyone can remember anything  I was upstairs at work doing some winter housekeeping tasks, deep cleaning showers, and after cleaning in the crevices of the cubicle in one of our rooms I rinsed down the ...

Hornby 2020 Speculation Thread - 100 years of Hornby

I read an interesting post online about next year being significant as it will be 100 years since Frank Hornby's first clockwork train was produced and they speculated that the catalogue (out January 6th 2020) and its contents might reflect this. How? I don't know. I'm a month early probably to post...

Re: Beaglington-On-Sea 00 gauge in 6ft by 4ft

It looks to me like you have a good plan. It’s strange that most seaside places have a sackful of pubs. Thanks, I live in Waterville in rural South West Kerry at the tip of the Iveragh Peninsula, and yet we are ranked 3rd or 4th highest in pubs to people ratio. There's about 10 or twelve places, so...

Nice start. I'll be following this with interest. Where did you find your goods shed ? Thanks. GOODS SHED.JPG It's a Superquick card kit, it has been battered about a bit and may end up being replaced eventually. I was going to upload more yesterday but my laptop decided it s Windows 7 operating sy...
