Re: Is there a test tool...

You're welcome for the idea I know from painful experience how horrible fault finding is, as I spent 2 hours today fault finding a circuit with over 150 jumpers, 2 PCBs and too many components!!! And the worst bit : I still have no idea what the problem is   :x :( GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR ...

Re: Is there a test tool...

the other option is to use an old wagon you don't particularly want, and use a bulb and resistor across the wheels (or use a hornby 0-4-0 with the motor taken out and the bulb where the motor was). the resistor might not be necessary, so if the bulb is really dim, take it out (but make sure your bul...

Re: first try @ my own layout

if you are trying to be prototypical, the crossover on the right (the one with a red dot on) is facing (a train driving on the left can go over it without reversing) Facing points were avoided where on the prototype, because they were more complex and expensive, but you can still use it if you want....

Re: The CASSR branchline

Time for an update I think i have begun laying track on board 2, changed the track plan 15 times and the layout has grown. original plan :16 ft * 2 ft * 1 ft tall new plan: 24 ft* 2 ft(expanding to 4 and 8 in places) * 10 ft tall the plan is to have the CASSR branch-line about 6 ft from floor level ...

Re: Stop and Start

if the problem is the 40, then a) clean the wheels b) take the body off and check the pickups c) use a multimeter or bulb to check that the DCC Chip is receiving power (be VERY careful not to short out the chip) d) LAST RESORT attach the bulb to the input side of the DCC chip (this may involve solde...

Re: Stop and Start

The best thing to do is to double EVERY variable so you need: a second loco a NEW yard of flexitrack another controller (DC or DCC, it doesnt matter) first, try loco 2 at very low speed on your current track with your elete put something obvious (drawing pin) wherever it stalls then repeat with the ...

Re: Stop and Start

Hi myfirstlayout 3 things spring to mind: 1) dirty track 2) dirty wheels 3) dodgy pickups Solutions 1) check that your track is clean. One way to do this is to run another loco VERY slowly, and see of it stalls. 2) depends how new it is. Is it a) out of the box yesterday, or b) year or so old If a) ...

Re: Silly power question

it might work, but a better solution would be to use a DPDT instead of a SPDT That way, both points would through at the same time, but the electricals would be separate BTW, a DPDT is like to of the switches you have there, but they only have 1 lever between them so they both throw at exactly the s...
