Re: What's your favourite loco name?

"Hal O' The Wynd".

The Gresley Racehorse names were superb too.

Re: What is the best desck lamp

I have two Anglepoise lamps, one screws to my workbench with a sort of G-clamp arrangement, the other has a heavy base.

Both are fitted with daylight 18W fluorescent bulbs........mostly because it's supposed to be good for my SAD, which is awful at this time of year.

Re: Handrail Knobs

Most vacuum cleaners have a kinder setting, with an opening on the handle some where to moderate the suction. I know our Vax does.

Re: Trainspotting - Back Then

As a small boy I was lucky in that my dad was deputy head of a local secondary school, and he went along with the twice-yearly visits to Doncaster, running sheds and works, which were run by the music master, Tom Scadding, ostensibly to let the lads have a look at what life might be like on the rail...

Re: Handrail Knobs

Nope, it's just one of nature's forces, like "fridge suck" which states that if you drop a small item on the kitchen floor, it will roll under the nearest immovable object...the fridge.

What you are experiencing is the modellers version, "carpet suck".

Re: faded paint

Paint can be had from railmatch in faded blue, yellow and red.
for dirt, there is underframe dirt, rust and dark earth. For exhausts use a sooty matt black, but don't go mad.

Most stuff best applied with an airbrush.

Never seen an actual power-plant modelled in detail before, very interesting indeed.

Next up, a Napier Deltic?

Re: Class 68 - coming soon

First off, if the one due to arrive is numbered 68002, how come it's the first one? What about 68001?

Second, that livery is weird. It will look OK moving from left to right, but right to left? The speed effect runs in the wrong direction.
Someone has tried to be too clever......

Re: engine crossover

I think mine would have 6 driven axles, and a cab at each end. It would have to be very powerful and make an amazing noise.

I think I might call it a Deltic....

Re: Just had to vent to people who would understand...

Paid over 3300 for a David Andrews kit. It didn't arrive, so after two weeks I contacted the man himself. He was apologetic, said he hadn't sent it signed for and would I MIND going to my local sorting office to check it wasn't there before he sent out another? Of course I didn't mind, but I was sce...

Re: Fantastic Deltic sound

The ONLY Deltic I've heard that sounds anything like realistic is the LH Loveless one, seen at Telford.

ALL "OO" gauge ones sound too tinny, lacking bass.

Re: Why no D400s?

Funny that you should mention that. I noticed yesterday while perusing through my old abc British Railways Diesels Summer 1959 Edition that projected number blocks were already being set aside for forthcoming classes. One such class is listed thus: Co-Co '5' to be introduced : ? Total 22, Manufactu...
