Re: Layout feedback please

Probably the only way to avoid the 'rounded square' look is to use flextrack. You're not limited then. You can go wherever you want to ... sort of. The right could be a sweeping station. The bottom and left could be through countryside or mountains.

Hope that helps.

Re: Xtrackad

Personally, I find it excruciating. However, I believe if you have serious dedication and willpower you will get the better of this little ... package. Have you tried this thread. I haven't read much of it but even the first post gives a lot of info and links.

Try Scarm. This is the link to the thread on this forum, if you wish to have a read through what others think about it. I think it's fantastic. You can work out levels and view your design in 3D. I'll have a better look at your plan tomorrow.

Re: Adding A Tunnel to a TrakMat Layout

You should have a look -here- for some ideas (or one anyway) on tunnel building.

Assuming that -this- is the trackmat you have, then I'd think anywhere on the left (top or bottom or both) would work. TK, sorry if that's what you said. Obviously it depends on which way round you look at it.

Re: Better Dapol Instructions?

Thank you poliss. You are a genius. On first glance, I can see these numbers (I can actually SEE the numbers) relate better to what is stamped on the plastic. Hopefully I can finish it now. Thank you again. Enthusiasm rising.

Better Dapol Instructions?

I got a Dapol C35 Schools kit a few weeks back (birthday present ... to myself) but I'm having trouble with the instructions. They are ... well ... I can only give them four stars. And I don't mean out of five. One A4 page with miniature diagrams. Firstly, I can't find some of the numbers which the ...

Re: Hand made turnouts

You may well be right about the strength. Time will tell and as I have been busy with work of late, I'm no further on than I was a month ago. Ah well. The geometry is based on Hornby/Peco setrack points so hopefully it'll work as well/poorly as they do. I just wanted something to compare them to and...

Re: Going U-shaped?

I'm not really sure, but is something like this what you mean. The blue rectangle is 6x2. Curved point, 2 double 2nd R curves, standard 2nd R on top, 2nd R half curve on bottom and then same/opposite on the other side.

Re: wall barrier needed for edge of board

I've seen some layout at exhibitions that use perspex along the from edge. It's something that I'll look into for my (eventual) layout. I don't know where you'd get it or how much you'd expect to pay though.

Re: A Pre-made baseboard in Ireland (help?)

To be honest if you're on a budget, then I think a pre-made board is out of the question. You're going to have to jump into the deep end I'm afraid, but people here will help. I will certainly try. What size is the Trakmat, 6x4?. I PM'd you another place you might try posting on. I know there are a ...

Re: Mill ... eh ... something-or-other

Didn't really bother with the 3 way point. I might try something like this. It will change whilst under construction no doubt. Track Layout 6 (6x4).scarm - SCARM 25092011 000956.jpg No worries about the hijacking. I'm enjoying it. I think it would need a coconut vendor, with a 'Horses for Sale' sign...

Re: Mill ... eh ... something-or-other

Thanks for the comments. B, I don't mind at all. When I give up looking to achieve the impossible, I will take up your suggestion. I liked the idea of the station in the corner. I might have a dapol loco kit sitting there as if there's an open day! Maybe a tourist attraction. Lots of people with cam...

Mill ... eh ... something-or-other

So I've been lurking around the fringes long enough. I'm almost at a stage where things might start moving. So I'm throwing up a plan for public scrutiny. Actually I'm looking for a solution. Here's my plan. It's about 6'x4' (ignore the dimensions, the building has thrown it a bit). OO gauge. No par...

Re: Hand made turnouts

Hi Bufferstop. First off, this is OO gauge. My initial plan was to have the point blades transfer the current to the frog, make a cut in each of the rails just after the frog and connect the remainder to the appropriate stock rail. When I know where they're going 'permanently' I'd probably look into...

Re: Hand made turnouts

The sleepers are actually matchsticks (glued, cut and filed to size). They're quite tough. It's been a while since I've used balsa, but they're harder than that. At first I just tried using Bostic all purpose glue (or something like that) but they practically just fell off. The slightest touch and t...
