Re: Peco 3 way point.
Is it the SL-99 Medium Radius 3 Way Code 100 Turnout and does the loco only derail on the left hand exit? Do you have the Lima, Hornby or Dapol Class 59?

Re: Soldering droppers to Code 75 track
Nowadays I generally solder wire to the bottom of a fishplate as there's less chance of melting sleepers and it seems to be easier in my experience.

Re: The BNR (another way)
A Wrenn 08 is one of the BNR's longest serving locos and also one of the best performers on the gradients .

Re: Hornby Bertie Bus R9096 - Lubricate Gears
Have you got any coagulated grease on the gears/axles as this can jam up mechanisms and needs to be removed. A plastic compatible degreaser would help in this case before re-lubricating. I have used electrical contact cleaner before which is supposed to be plastic compatible. I've also used meths wh...

Re: The BNR (another way)
To reduce track maintenance the procurement department have now banned locos with traction tyres and tender drive on the BNR :) . There's just a few long serving Lima and Hornby diesels left. The line does have a preserved Hornby loco drive 4F, though the traction tyred wheelset has been replaced wi...

Re: The BNR (another way)
A tricky job neatly done. I await the pictures of it attacking those fearsome gradients. Thank you Bufferstop. To reduce drag and slightly improve performance on the gradients, the pickups on the centre tender wheels have been pushed away from the wheels. 10 wheel pickup has to be enough, even with...

Re: The BNR (another way)
After a lot of head scratching and breaking two drill bits (0.3mm) the workshop team managed to drill two holes into the crosshead where the previous cast fixings had partially disintegrated. The first hole was drilled all the way through the bottom of the crosshead, while the second was drilled par...

Re: The BNR (another way)
The latest loco the enter the BNR's workshops is a fairly recently arrived K1. It always had fairly floppy valve gear on one side and there was a mysterious loss of plating on the associated connecting rod. Trainspotters on the platform alerted management to the possibility of impending failure and ...

Re: The BNR (another way)
There is another product that helps loco's, that's 'Bullfrog Snot' I haven't used the product, but I've been told it works. manna I believe that this is for replacing worn out traction tyres on locos that have a groove in the driving wheels? The BNR try to avoid traction tyres as a rule, although t...

Re: The BNR (another way)
Well sadly I have to report that the track replacement made no appreciable difference to haulage :( . Although there seemed to be more friction when cleaning the steel railhead, perhaps the tea and biscuits changed the driving behaviour of No1's crew? Nevertheless in the wheel world :) loco No 1 sti...

Re: The BNR (another way)
The track gangers finally found some free time to install steel rails on the BNR's steepest gradient. Steel rail apparently has a greater coefficient of friction than nickel silver rail and it was hoped that this might improve adhesion, allowing some of the less powerful locos to work on the branch ...

Re: The BNR (another way)
This looks like a case for a CD motor implant. I've done a couple, including one in a bogie that has gone under a dock shunter. It's worth getting a kit with a 12v motor and an adaptor ring, I've 3D printed my own adaptor. The end result is as good as a brand new ring field ever was. With hindsight...

Re: The BNR (another way)
Attempting to get the rescued Class 21's original Ringfield power bogie running smoothly has proved to be a long running saga. Initially it seemed that the brushes were not being held firmly in place due to a damaged faceplate rivet and so the missing part of the rivet was built up using epoxy. This...

Re: Steel Track Solder.
I tend to solder to the bottom of the fishplates where there is a gap in the sleepers. The wire is then threaded down through a hole in the baseboard. Would replacing the fishplates reduce the voltage drop reducing the need for droppers? I guess that someone still makes suitable fishplates for Trian...
