9 years.

That's only 4 less than it took to restore "Duke of Gloucester", and they had less loco to work with, and no workshop.

I asked an NRM official about Mallard during "The Great Gathering", and he told me that the reason they won't restore her is since 4468 is the world speed record holder, she's simply too valuable.

True to an extent. Whereas the Lancasters had Merlin engines, the smaller Manchesters had Vulture engines, which were terrible.
