Re: Blagdon Yard - Mini OO Layout

A little bit of work on one a ballast wagon. Firstly I filled the wagon with a few blocks of polystyrene, then poured some of the spare ballast left over from when I ballasted the track, http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v284/geoffhill/DSC04579.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v284/geoffhill/DS...

Re: Blagdon Yard - Mini OO Layout

Visit from Santa... Santa brought a couple of things for the yard today. Firstly, a Class 20 in railfreight grey, http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v284/geoffhill/DSC04585-1.jpg and secondly, it doesn't quite go with the layout, but looks rather fantastic, The Hornby 'Days of Red and Gold' Set with ...

Re: how does the hardness off water affect boilers?

Water Hardness is a big pain for most of the preserved railways All locos are emptied every 28 days, and washed out. Washout plugs are located round the firebox and in the front tube plate. Into these, you stick a very high pressure hose and blast all the crap out, which comes out the bottom, from t...

Re: Blagdon Yard - Mini OO Layout

A New class 33 arrived last night, in engineers livery, to match with the early 90s theme for the layout. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v284/geoffhill/DSC04573-1.jpg Along with a couple of grampus wagons, and a brake van from the same era. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v284/geoffhill/DSC0457...

Re: Blagdon Yard - Mini OO Layout

I've been playing with ballast for the last few days. Unfortunately, I managed to stick the 2 points together, and it took a lot of swear words, a knife, and some nail varnish remover to clean them all up to get them working afterwards. There are a few gaps in the ballast, which I need to re-visit s...

Just a little bit of work with grey paint tonight, to mark out the areas which I'm going to ballast, which is tomorrow's job

Re: Does anyone have any photos on diesel era branch terminals

Take a look at Whitby station,

It has a single track terminus, but a loop about 2-300m up the line for a run around and reversal back into the platform.

Most of the charter traffic into there runs a loco at each end

Re: Class 20 pair coupling

No steam heat in a class 20, but the vac pipe would always be connected. The driver controls the level of vac in the system to control the brakes.

Re: Blagdon Yard - Mini OO Layout

Thanks, I've seen inglenook layouts before, but 3ft isnt quite long enough for shunting. After you suggested, I've had a further mess around with potential layouts, but gain a maximum of 1 1/2 inches of extra track by inserting curves, at the expense of having any space next to the track at the top ...

Re: Blagdon Yard - Mini OO Layout

I'm very limited to what I can build in that space, and it's for something to build until March or April when it gets a little warmer and I can go back in the loft. Its painfully cold up there. There is enough room there to run trains, but only just. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v284/geoffhill/...

Blagdon Yard - Mini OO Layout

It's freezing cold in the loft, so I've decided I need a layout in the house. Unfortunately, there isn't a lot of room, so I've decided to create a 100cm x 50cm layout. Based on a small table I can buy for £15 at ikea, eliminating the need to build a board. I'm not a fan of small layouts with a huge...

Re: My first layout

It's been a long time since an update here, but there has been a little progression lately I've finally managed to get the second loop installed, so I can now run 2 trains at once, giving me 2 loops, each just a smidge over 100ft in length http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=td_dZdU0pTw Im going to go up...

Re: My first layout

The q1 was £80 for the model, and either £10 or £20 for a re-crest,

The a4 was, ahem, £185. It's £175 for a full custom model, and then an extra £10 for the etched brass 'Elizabeathen' headboard supplied and fitted.

Re: My first layout

There is even more Southern-ness than before. I've been looking for a late crest unweathered q1 for a while now, and no where seems to have one. I asked the guys at TMC if they could find one, and they couldn't, but what they could manage, was to re-crest the easly version :) They said that they did...
