Re: Temperature Controlled Soldering Station
I thought the connector valve was specific to Butane to prevent the use of other fuels.

Re: N Gauge or OO?
Has anybody ever gotten used to varifocals? I paid a small fortune for mine, and I can't be having them. HI Bushey Been wearing them for nearly 10 years. The optometrist who tested me for them put two "contact lenses" on my existing specs so that I could try out how varifocals would work....

I wondered where that layout had got to. It used to do the rounds of the midlands fairs, then it disappeared. Perhaps the owner moved south.

Re: Henley's Big Expansion
You would have thought that correcting the position of a presumably non driven axle's hole would be relatively low cost to changing the dies for a detailed body, or does this mean that somewhere there's a chassis mountain that they'd rather make use of. It amazed me that H-D when recommencing produc...

Re: Dummy Locos
It seems to be restricted to Triang X03 X04 motors and the original motor bogie. You occasionally see other bodies for sale but never locos complete but for the motor. The X03/4 was a good motor for it's day but even Hornby used off the shelf substitutes in later years. My own favourite is the N20 s...

Dummy Locos
Has anyone else noticed a rash of "Dummy Locos" offered on EBay. They vary from a Triang Jinty to two car DMUs. The common factor is, they all have had there X03/4 motor or early type motor bogie removed but look otherwise complete. They appear to come from multiple sellers but even when y...

Re: Dapol O Gauge 'Sentinel'
Due to their use by companies with their own sidings Sentinels were to be found well beyond the 1968 "end of Steam" There was one worked the foundry sidings where I grew up. It would potter along pushing a couple of wagons which it would attach to the growing string in the loop where the s...

Re: Henley's Big Expansion
Some close calls there Chops. You obviously need to install the signals and drive by them. Mind you there will be the electronics enthusiasts who would have you creating dead sections interlocked to the signals and a computer tucked away somewhere to drive it all. Nah! Having worked for years with e...

Re: Shunting Layout Couplings
The buffing bar (the D) of the tensionlock coupler has a lip along the top edge, the hooked end of the coupler engages in the lip as long as the couplings are in tension. For this to work uncoupling has to be by a lightly sprung ramp. Always was difficult to get the springing right, that's where the...

Re: Shunting Layout Couplings
I looked at the possibilities, including KDs but came to the conclusion I was better off staying with one of the forms of Tensionlock, for neatness I chose the Bachmann narrow version which is available for most of the fixing methods including NEM. However when using NEM pockets I shorten the pocket...

Re: Henley's Big Expansion
Yes elevation is problematical, that long straight at the back is great for one slope, but the other slope would involve a sharp curve, not ideal. A totally separate circuit, disguised to look like it is connected, perhaps?

No wonder it wasn't widely known about the interface to that catalogue is totally ott. and leaves you looking at a picture of the text. I found it difficult to read at any magnification.

I remember when they first came out. I saw one running around the mountain circuit on the old Alton Towers layout. I think it must have belonged to one of the operators or maintainers as I never saw it again.

Re: Chris Brown (Emettman)'s workbench
The last post from Chris (Emmettman) was 27-Oct-2018. Despite several people making enquiries we never found out what had become of him. We know he didn't enjoy the best of health either physical or mental. Let's be glad that we have this thread to remind us of his genius and wild imagination.
