Re: The significance of the Stockton and Darlington Railway.
I'd never realised that painting was by Cuneo. He seems to be trying to recreate a style current at the time of opening. I like the touches where he emphasizes the detail, like the ballast - if truly representative wouldn't mean a lot to someone who'd never seen railway track, but he leaves no doubt...

Re: Display storage for OO gauge rolling stock
Type "Model Train Display Case" into Google, There's plenty there under £100. Go for one with hinged, or sliding doors unless you intend to use it for stock that you won't be running very often. The ones with the dust proof clamped on glass front are a faff to open just to get one item out.

Re: Two different motors in one loco!
Did you try running it on each separately. I too would like to see a photo of the two bogies. The arrangement in most old Lima locos might lead to someone thinking that the trailing bogie was something like a Tenshodo SPUD bogie. It's just a rather heavy block containing the pickups for one rail. I ...

Re: Dcc loco issues
Lenz made their DCC design open source in conjunction with the NMRA Oops missed that  Perhaps it's the language thing, they don't seem to make a lot of it. At least they don't try to pretend there's no other manufacturer in the business like a very British firm used to (may still do to some e...

Re: Thankfully never produced
What if Wrenn had understood the jig was up for their existing product, and sourced plastic loco bodies from Hong Kong I doubt that was likely. From everything I have read, and picked up at exhibitions etc. Wrenn got, for free, the H-D tools and anything else they could carry away from what Lines B...

Re: How is my brain nowadays??? (Funicular layout)
Just for Mountain and those with unruly rails Ta-da--- "Rails that spring in all directions - you need my "Universal Rail Tamer"" Here's a shot of me "straightening" an unhelpful rail. The effect isn't instant but it is even reversible. That angle does me no favours I'l...

Re: Gresley 2-6-2. Help.
The model was introduced by "I think Palitoy" under the name "Mainline" it may well have been produced by the same people who produced it for Bachman. The Gresley 2-6-2T was first released in 1992 in the Bachmann range and was significant in being Bachmann's first UK loco that h...

See what you mean, multipane windows in doors aren't very common in UK industrial buildings, they tend to be minimal or non existent.

Re: Dcc loco issues
In my experience a Lenz DCC system and Lenz or Zimo decoders are a stable solution, A similar scenario to the "Apple v just about everyone else" in computers. Build your hardware to your design, control the use of it by copyright and patents rigorously enforced, and defended against rever...

Postby Daniel » Fri Apr 16, 2021 3:36 pm Well, yes, especially the “Fairfax Manor Incline Railroad” with only one car. More tradeoffs. A one-car system uses rail no more complex that a single length of track, no points etc., but then it possibly requires some sort of counterweight to offset the mech...

Re: PNP's O-16.5 Workbench
With the "wood" painted/stained in the right colours it probably looks more like wood than balsa or birch ply would have looked. Great job. Put me out of my puzzlement, apart from perhaps having their frames on the outside, what's American or at least not English about the doors? Are Ameri...

Re: Dcc loco issues
Everything that's NMRA compatible will work fine with a good DCC system - True, or False. Very False !! It seems nobody can really explain. The better the decoder the less problems you'll have. Welcome to the world of digital electronics Geoff. The following are just accepted truisms Specifications...

Re: starter set vs separates
Older sources of advice may suggest that you will end up with a bundle of curved track that you, nor anyone else, particularly wants. They come from the days when running in was a pointless exercise, you would have worn out the mechanicals before there would be any improvement , well not quite!. One...

Re: Point motor CDU is weak
Without seeing the original cct and your modification this will have to be a guess, so- There will be some resistance between the input terminal and the capacitor(s), this is to limit the inrush current when first connected. Think of it as a tap only partly turned on. The original resistance allowed...
