Around £6 from Amazon, doubtless cheaper elsewhere.

Re: St. Blazey's - My first layout - Stage 3 Building

E2E do those surface mount motors come with leads attached? I seem to remember that Peco and Hornby have a difference of opinion about the colour coding of their wiring. If that's ok check all the gaps in the points are still open where they should be. I have some Peco points where left to their own...

Re: PeterH's Great Central themed layout.

I’ve found making a ‘mechanical’ joint with the wires then cocooning them in solder seemed to work best. This was the way the connections were done in telephone exchanges up to the mid 1960s. Probably well beyond for some of the newer exchanges. They could be a right b' to unsolder. Then someone de...

So if the class 20s hadn't beaten them to it they might have been known as "Choppers" rather than "Hoovers" :D

That must be "the only one that they could find" hence the need for us to go right into Stranrear. You would probably had to fight off another dozen photographers to get that shot this weekend.

Re: PeterH's Great Central themed layout.

Fine enamel insulated wire can be a real PITA when it comes to soldering. The first thing I discovered was that really coarse grit didn't touch it, literally, it was quite possible for the wire to pass through the spaces between the grit. Something like 1000 grade wet and dry stands more of a chance...

Definitely "Presence". When one came past the coach when running round there was no disputing that this thing had power in oodles, just waiting to be used. That projecting headcode/marker light box gives them a real aggressive look. I can see why they have such strong fan club.

Re: We must be Barmy

This was my first experience of Class 50 traction, I'm impressed by not only the turn out of the locos in GBRF's colours, but their mechanical condition was a credit to the team at Kidder who maintain them, on the return trip we were in the first coach behind the service van and the engines sounded ...

Re: Dcc concept S levers

There is bound to be some programming involved in getting the controller to output to the point motor when the lever is moved, also setting it to output a pulse of sufficient length to throw the point in both directions. As 4472 says get help from the suppliers to do this. Meantime have you tested t...

Here's 50 007 going under an assumed identity,

We tried to get some shots of the other side when it was at Ayr but ScotRail kept parking EMUs in the way.

We must be Barmy

Mrs W and I are always up for a different sort of outing, this one has been over a year in the brewing thanks to Covid. Someone (Pathfinder tours) thought a good way to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the Class 50s would be to take a pair of them somewhere in the UK that one had never been before....

Re: Bachmann DMU, Cravens / class 105

My only moan is the internal lights are very dim and only show up in a real gloomy room. Likely prototypical but too dim for me. Sounds absolutely prototypical. When they entered service the internal lighting was pathetic, just a few 50w bulbs. When they were refurbished and fluorescent tube lights...

Re: Your priorities on what manufacturers should improve

I doubt that would be possible as they are at that stage only projected dates. There are too many variables outside their control to be more accurate. Perhaps they should make it clear that they are only best guesses. Accuracy goes up dramatically once they are on board the ship, that is providing i...
