Re: A new carpet

You should treat these tubes the way you would off cuts of good timber, their uses are manifold. A former colleague rescued the veneered top of a wheeled cupboard. Asked what he wanted it for he said "polished up it will make a good small table. He brought in a photo of it when he'd finished it...

Re: Is a CDU pulse only ???

The air gap in small plug-in relays isn't big enough to quench an arcover. If there are spare contacts on the relay try putting two pairs in series, that will give you twice the air gap and may be enough to prevent welding. Load sharing by putting contacts in series sounds impractical, but it works!...

Re: Hornby - including Oxford Rail, Lima etc.

I guess the brand has done what Lyndon wanted, he now runs Hornby. Oxford Rail gave him some leverage in that takeover it now makes sense to roll them into one, looked at from that perspective it's the little guy taking over the behemoth by stealth. Hornby now has a management that knows something a...

Well it's put it in the description, I'm going to leave it at that, Otherwise it might throw a wobbly.

Re: Hornby - including Oxford Rail, Lima etc.

As I suspected, it lets me edit the string of that line, but nothing appears when you go back to the forum. What I don't know and can't try is what happens when the Board is restarted. If it doesn't appear in the next couple of days I'll ask the Owners to force a restart.

I'll have a go at changing it but there's a problem with the template being in the original creators ID folder.

Re: Phantom movements

I've witnessed an 009 point blade start to glow red when it was feeding a short circuit about a metre away without drawing sufficient current to overload an H&M Powermaster. There should have been a substantial feed between the two but a failed solder joint left the poor little point blade to ca...

Re: Phantom movements

If your DCC supply can withstand, without tripping, the sort of transient short circuits that can be generated by wheels passing through pointwork, it's an indication that your track and busbars have more than an ideal level of resistance. They need some extra current carrying capacity, this would c...

Re: Fitting a Stay Alive

Having decided that it's far too late to swap my layout to DCC I tend not to look at these threads, but I got intrigued by this one. I picked up a couple of 0-4-0s from the Bachmann DCC starter sets to cannibalise for their chassis. They contained a PCB very similar to the one shown and the decoder ...

Re: Irresponsible Blogging

OK folks, I started this thread, by and large there seems to be a consensus of opinion. I'm going to put the brakes on it now, before it goes down the route we see on other sites.
Thanks for your opinions.

Re: Dad-1 - Workbench - West Bay Wagon Works

A bit more than simply "should not be shocked". The body to chassis fixing allowed the body to move to mitigate the worst of any shock. The van bodies would be six inches shorter than their standard counterpart, allowing up to three inches of movement against the shock absorbing mechanism....

Re: Irresponsible Blogging

Now for a real lapse of judgement, it was a cable contractor who needed to get into the space between the tops of the racks and the ceiling in a telephone switch room. As it was a real ancient installation the busbars were covered in tubes of "American Cloth" the stuff the table cloths wer...

Re: How much space is required.

Unless you are in possession of a large hall or aircraft hanger the answer is all most certainly, far more than you have. The diagram which isn't necessarily to scale gives the main dimensions in "chains' yards and feet" a chain being 22yds or 66ft. I've actually surveyed using a chain and...

Sounds like he's suffering from over estimating his capabilities. I'm sure a lot of us try to ignor anno dominii, but in business you have to be realistic and only promise what you know you can deliver.
