Re: Anyone currently buying?
A single loco now costs AUD$600! Why? The Chinese craftsmen who make the tools to produce these models caught on to what their bosses were charging for the results of their hard work. It might be a communist country but the bosses understood the signs of dissent and not wishing to give up any of th...

Scaleable too! Though for 00 scale may be two bogies rather than two axles, to give it more chance of following the curves.

Re: My first baseboard experiment
Low relief models are frontages with part of the roof and a short bit of the sidewalls (where they can be seen). Usually placed against the backscene. Often as Geoff describes a whole street in with just a depth of 1-2inches.

Re: Baseboard Support Using 2 Workmates
A pair of workmates would be quite an investment to tie up in supporting a baseboard. Folding work trestles are often used, If you wanted to make it semi permanent right angle brackets screwed to the top of the trestle and the side of the rails would allow for leveling adjustment,

Re: NO-OX-ID A-Special / INOX for better conductivity
I'd imagine it works like the conductive gel that can be used on power connections, it would have to have good conductivity whilst excluding air from getting to the just cleaned surface. I'd have reservations about using it as I would imagine it's intended for use on static connections such as a rin...

Midland Pullman
Spent yesterday being waited on aboard the Midland Pullman. It's definitely a worthy successor to the original. The livery suits it down to the ground, I suppose it should being roughly the same shape as the original and the subtle change in the shade of blue is what "Rail Blue" should hav...

Re: HS II - Shunting with Kadees
Same here, got one of the very first batch, never used the pickup wagon, quite steady across live frogs (I did worry that at real low speed the wheels might fall in the flangeway gap, but it's fine.) Without a load the real things tend to move off like a Hornby 0-4-0.

Re: Minories Layout: Trap points
Whatever the rules say one wouldn't look wrong, but you could always put in a point and create a loco spur. If you do put in a trap point be sure it deflects to the right, ie away from the running lines.

They probably didn't go down that well in the toy trade, so an item more likely to appeal to knowledgeable modelers. If they were slow sellers there wouldn't be many re runs.

Re: Anybody know what this model is based on?
Most of the chemical reactions that they used depended on one very common factor, heat, usually from steam. That meant boilers mostly fired by coal. In the late 50s early 60s a lot was switched to natural gas. The PO 7 plank wagons would have lasted well into the thirties, their liveries becoming mo...

Re: Anybody know what this model is based on?
Chance and Hunt aka Chance Brothers aka ICI Chance and Hunt and every other combination you can think of were a large chemicals industry and had both PO Wagons and their own fleet of narrow boats. Good luck in trying to track down original drawings, it's hard enough trying to find what name they wer...

Re: Crossing short
You don't mention it, do your copper clad points 2&3 have insulated joiners or insulating gaps on the V rails of the frog? If not they will be applying a short circuit to the unselected road. It would help to know where the power feed is in relation to this junction, and is it part of a continuo...

Re: 009 Couplings
Yes you can use a ramp to uncouple the standard 009 couplers, but due to the very light weight of most 009 stock it's best to make them mechanically/electrically raised. Sprung ramps have a tendency to lift the stock rather than be pressed down. Here's a better picture of the beast https://peco-uk.c...

Never mind the size of it, why is it that the imagined builders of the imagined line always make a B-Line for the only hill on an otherwise flat plain?

Re: Anyone recognise this picture
Thanks guys, now I know what it is/was I can search for more detailed information. If it was one of the auction sites that put the photo up then it's probably no ;longer on the site. If I find anything more detailed than the wiki I'll post it here. Some of the pictures show it without the roof mount...
